New guy - 05 E55

I posted in the site newb forum, but interestingly got 0 replies. I've been on many forums in my time, don't think that has ever happened. Hopefully it wasn't me!

Anyway, new to Mercedes in general, and just picked up a new-to-me 05 E55. Still trying to work through all of the available options. I'm fairly mechanically and electronically inclined, but there seems to be so many things on these cars that need a special combination of buttons, switches, levers to access. I'm starting to get the hang of it, especially with research on these forums.

Very happy with my purchase thus far, car looks great of course, great power (although I haven't deal with any heat soak issues yet), comfy of course. Only minor things at this time is a Service E that I need to do (closest MB dealer is 2 hours away, and I probably don't want to drop the $$ on dealer work), and a bit of tire/road noise. I was wondering if anyone notices that (aka is it normal), or should I go for a alignment and balance?

I've already learned a lot on the forums, hope to learn much more. Sincerely hope eventually I can be of help to someone - I have a lot of wrenching experience, an electronics troubleshooting background, and ECM/PCM tuning experience on other platforms.

Hope to see/hear from you guys on the forums!

Jon

PS anyone know what these rims are from? Or were they a stock option?

I've only ever run my old 14sec 95 Trans Am at the strip. I have owned one faster car than this, it was a strip setup supercharged 95 TA (another one), cammed, stalled, etc. However, that thing was a beast to drive, stiff, loud, clunky. This thing feels like I could drink a martini on the way down the track...

I can imagine, don't want to go that route. My TA had a 3600 stall, it was sick. You basically ONLY wanted to drive it if you intended to go very, very fast. This car is always a pleasure to drive, and can still go very, very fast

are the wheels 18' or 19'? if they're 18's they're most likely E350 wheels, if they're 19's then most likely CLS wheels.

They are 18's, but they have AMG cast into one of the spokes.

Welcome & congrats.

Regarding your wheels .. don't mean to rain on your parade but to me they seem like knock off AMG wheels in gunmetal.

When I had my CLS I searched high and low for my ICW wheels and came across some really good fakes. I say they are knock off due to the "edginess" of the spokes & the offset, the fact that they are 18s & clear the BBK. True AMG wheels from what I have seen are smoother in the spoke area.

There are shops out here that even offer them with the AMG stamp in 18s, different colors & clear bbk .. if I'm wrong then on the back of the wheels there should be AMG or MB stamps. I could be wrong but I have not seen the 5 spoke AMG wheels in 18s most if not all are in 19 or higher from MB.

Either way they look good on the car knock off or not ...

This place is a joke.
I don't think they are knock-offs. Those are the 18" wheels sold on the E350/E550 with the "AMG sport package" which is basically a cosmetic package. ..Someone painted them grey.

AH I completely forgot about those 18s offered on the E350/550

OP just check the back of the wheels see if they have proper stamping if you're that interested

No parade to rain on. I'd put money on them being fakes, just had no idea what they were fakes of. In initial pics I didnt like them, once I saw them I changed my mind. Thanks for the insights guys. Oh and whats BBK? I'll see if I find a stamp when I put it on my lift.
