Anyone been up against a CLA45?

Saw a video clip of one vs an Aussie Holden supercharged V8 and those little 2 liter turbo's are quick off the line, but the V8 kills it halfway down the strip. I have seen one in my neighbourhood, but haven't come across it when I am in my E55 yet. Just wondering how quick they really are? At 265kw they must be pretty maxed out for a 2 liter motor or does anyone think they have room for a few more mods to get them over the 300kw mark? With the 4 matic system and much lighter body weight plus twin clutch gearbox they could potentially fly. The 135i and S3 brigade must be crapping their pants.

Judging by the 700+ hp some are extracting from the 2.0L Mitsubish Lancer Evo's, I would say there is quite a bit of power left on the table.

So a well modded CLA45 is a serious threat to my partially modded E55 or will ' no replacement for displacement' prevail?

It may be once they figure everything out on the CLA, but I would still give a partially modded E the nod. It may take them awhile to get a good amount of power out of the motor, who knows.

.04 seconds in a quarter mile, but look the overtaking occurred just before the end of the quarter, guys with the 55's you had better start drilling the frame for more weight reduction as well as start on a steady vegan diet. In town this little 2Ltr demands respect it seems!

It seems we are going back to the dreaded hot hatch days when every 20 something year old will have an A45 dropped, tuned & with an exhaust. Not again pleassssse - I have only had my E55 for 3 months and was used to blowing the doors off everything. These things are going to be everywhere driven by boy racers who have never even been under their own cars let alone changed a tyre. I think a massive shot nitrous is in order to sort them out.

If anyone actually believes a new A45 will give a healthy E55, even a stock one, any sort of trouble you may have another thing coming. I believe these videos and crappy runs are all part of a huge marketing ploy to sell the lowly A45, no offence to anyone who has one... I'm sure its a great car. Tired of seeing all these bs tests everywhere though with the new A45. Suuuuuure it can go head to head with a new E63...

That is what has been bothering me -I can understand the take off, but no way can it hold a supercharged/turbo charged V8 in 3rd gear? Just watch the Aussie video. The Holden was only pushing 430 kw on the motor and that car weighs 2 tons and has the worst/slowest 6 speed autobox ever. The A45 is quick, but I think it compares closer to the M135i. Torque counts big time and that the little A45 does not have. Guess I will just have to find out the hard way, on the road.

Anything after 80-100mph and they should get beat by our cars np. They will be fun to mod and face off with modded 335's, m3's and cars of the caliber. If there's room for modding I will def be leasing one after my Infiniti lease.

They are going to be little monsters once people starting dumping e85 into them and companies like forced performance begin selling HTA bolt on turbos.

I wouldn't worry about boy racers too much. They'll almost always go for the evo/sti/370z first because of the ridiculous aftermarket.

This and the price range at first will be well above the price for one of those, even a new one. And at the 370z, those guys....

most of those 700+ hp evos you see around have at least $15-20k+ dumped into them and run built 2.3L stroker motors. you will not see anything close to that on a stock 4 cylinder motor and my guess is that built motors for this platform are going to cost even more ... and that's IF anyone will even offer one.

The 4G platform has been around for a very long time and has vast aftermarket support while Mercedes aftermarket support is still limited to a few vendors(out of those even fewer do any real R&D).

The 4Matic AWD system is also yet to be proven to hold up to significantly above stock power levels.

The other problem with 700hp+ Evo's was the fact that they needed to be serviced every 5 seconds and regularly broke parts like driveshafts and eat clutches for breakfast. Every time I see a Subaru or EVO for sale, with under 60k miles, the advert states that the engine has been fully rebuilt, which means the internals don't hold up. I know of plenty E55 owners with modded cars still going strong at 120k plus miles. Okay, I will hold off on the twin turbo, meth injected, nitrous conversion for now.

I've seen a few of these on the street now and I don't care how much horsepower or tuneable the cla45 turns out to be, I have zero interest in a tiny looking toy car.

Must say, saw both new baby AMG's at a recent car show... The A45 is a real youngster boy racer... take on them GTI's, however I did think the new CLA45 is quite a sexy little thing
