E63 belt shredding problem ...
Hi guys
I am at my 3rd belt in 2 years around 15000 mi
The first time it shredded it broke a few pullies
Second time and 3 rd time it only ripped one complete grove of the belt
What can this be?
I never replaced the tensioner and have 60000 mi
Thanks for your help
Erick

I had a tensioner fail and cause the belt to fail, which in turn wiped out a bunch of other stuff on the front of my engine. I had no indication (squeals, etc.) that the tensioner had stopped spinning. The car went on the back of a truck and the dealer said the "tensioner failed."

You may want to consider an ASP pulley set (they use Z rated bearings) and replacing the belt at 10K mile intervals.

The first belt
might have bent something and causing a pulley to be off alignment.
if all are spinning and no noise.
10K a belt ..no way....
I did a belt change at 80k just because I was going on a 5k mile trip.
