South Beach and Fake AMG's
...........I am currently in South Beach for a little RR. I am amazed at the number of fake AMG's I've seen. One guy had a V12 biturbo side emblem on his CLS500 and proceeded to add a CLS75 emblem at the back. Yes, 75 not even 65. I generally don't care about what one does to his car and I still don't, I am mostly suprised because this is an area with very nice cars........therefore very easy to spot a fake.

It funny you said that because my brother in law and I took a trip down there to look at a 300c some guy was selling. From what I was thinking that area was going to have a nice cars. We get down there and the car was a 300 base model with emblems from a hemi 300. So later on we go out on collins ave and saw a cls 500 with the amg emblem on the fender. At least get it right and put it on the trunk. They did have some nice cars though.

same here in HK.. the worst are the obvious stock cars badged up to the max.
But get this, possibly the worst case of gay fake badging ive heard of!!! My brother told me the other day that back in Adelaide Australia, there's a guy in a CLS500 with (totally LOL at gayness of it all) MAYBACH emblems on each front guard!!!!! WTF!!!!!!

i just don't understand why people do this. i would feel like an idiot driving around a "fake" car while people who knows about AMG cars are laughing at me

We have a SL500 "AMG 500" at my gym. The rear decklid had more letters than I could read. It's an 03' and would have been nice. It's so awesome that the guy even has chrome fender trim, sick looking rain guards, and not one...but two different satelite radios suction cupped to his windsheild.
He parked right in front of me one day as if my little C43 was nothin compared to his. This guy was a 50 going on 18 midlife single loser trying to work out for all the wrong reasons. I was pissy that day so I told him what was wrong with his car. He quickly felt it was "just" to badge it AMG because it came stock with the AMG wheel package....no idea.
He quickly turned red when my boss rounded the corner laughing outloud knowing what we were talking about. Lame lame lame posers. The same people who buy a car and leave the window sticker on it for weeks to let everyone know "I paid this much" I'm and idiot blah blah blah.

Yeah, there are a lot of fakers here, just like any other big city, but there are also plenty of extremely beautiful, exotic & expensive cars, plenty.

There's a kid that lives around where I do with a Honda Civic and he took all the Honda emblems off and put Acura ones on. I guess that's supposed to be an upgrade or something.

I remember 6 months before the sl 65 was released I saw one at the Blue Martini Bar.
This Morning I saw the New E55 with the single exhaust tips and no ground effects.

OK .. how bout this one!
The rear view is hard to see but it's an AMG badge on the left side replacing whatever SL badge was there .. and the side badges may say something in another language, but ...

I've always found it to be hysterically funny. People who are familiar with AMGs would, necessarily, know that the car is a poser. So, the very people that the poser is trying to impress, know that the car is fake.

...............for some reason, that doesn't bother me. He can place an F16 jet emblem on his car for fun, when it is obvious it is a car not a fighter jet. Its all fun and totally his call. I mostly react to ones that are not so obvious. For instance, I have been dreaming about a CLS65 ever since my dealer wrongly told me that it is in the pipeline. So when I saw a really nice looking CLS with AMG rims and a V12 biturbo side emblem, I was very excited.........but of course it was not to be. I don't really know where to draw the line since I actually do believe that one can do whatever they wish with their car. I know this sounds inconsistent, but there it is.

20+ to list......
There are quite a few in Queens, NY also, I've always pointed them out to my wife since she doesn't know how to distinguish them from fake to real. Last weekend, we saw a C320 coupe parked in Chinatown and it has full AMG treatment, take out the 0 you got a C32, AMG badge on the trunk/hatch lid, C32's wheels, twin tip exhaust. So to her, she thinks it's real, but when I pointed out the seats and the brakes, it's another wannabe.
