Engine- converter to Flywheel connection

Lot of people ask about installing a converter in thier garage or maybe putting an engine in. Some of us will be doing these installs this winter on the cold hard garage floor

One little trick with MB Vs american cars, is the MB flywheel is not flat like on may US cars, so you have to pre- align the bolt lugs on the conveter with the flywheels, so you do not get them hung up on the connection of engine and tranny. If the converter lug does not align with the flywheel indentation, then you will have a 3/8" gap between engine and tranny and waste tiem trying to solve why the gap is there, plus converter will not turn to align , while in a bind.

3000 stall converter with 3 bolt lugs.

Flywheel indentation;

Lighter flywheels are for stick shift cars. These are referred to in the industry as a flexplate, and there's nowhere to save weight on this part.

An aftermarket converter saves a lot of rotating weight however...

Fair question and they do not make them lighter for our cars but lighter would still help with rotational mass. Our Flywheels are really light for a factory wheel and most the weight there is pretty much needed for strenght. You might be able to get a 1-2 lbs off and keep the strenght but cost VS weight removed, would be painfull. IMO

Carbon fiber driveshaft would be a nice addition.

Our converter takes 10 lbs off the factory rotational mass stock converter. That is a lot of weight in the world of engine parts turning at 6800 rpm
