SBC replacement period about to run up
So I've been doing some reading about the SBC system. Mercedes offers free replacement up to 10 years after manufacture date, my car will hit this in a couple months. So, I've got a couple questions...
Is there a way to check and see if my car has already had this? A visual way I could check by looking at the SBC unit, or would i need a VMI or something?
Does every SBC pump go bad? Is this an 'if' or a 'when' issue? I read something about the pump having a threshold for "braking events", which I can only assume means peddle presses. What's the number on this? Is there a way to find out how close you are to it?
And lastly, is there a way to 'force' this code so I don't end up being $3k out of pocket in a few months? It seems that there must be some sort of problem with SBC if MB offers a 10 year free replacement, and also stopped using it on our cars after 2006

Some people after getting the code, reset with DAS. I have heard some dealers do this also (only in reading) … I would not recommend this. SBC failure is serious failure.

I had the white : Brake Service - Visit Workshop warning come on. I replaced my Brake Light Switch (on brake pedal) and there was still a code is STAR that showed something like (I wish I would have written it down): Brake component threshold exceeded.
So the only reason it went to dealer was for this. We could not clear it in STAR
Before they looked at it my adviser said he would do everything he could to get the SBC replaced if needed even though the 10 year warranty had expired in October.
He called and said: Your SBC is fine, however the code requires an SBC update
It was $90 out the door.

The code for this, at least mine, was C249F-Check operating time of component A7/3 (SBC Hydraulic Unit) which gave me the white screen Brake Service visit workshop brake malfunction on the cluster. We could not clear it with STAR (kept coming back) and after going through the steps to fix it, it required some special "tool" to reprogram it or reset it per the computer. I dropped it off at the dealer and apparently the SBC unit just needed reprogrammed. Brakes felt normal before and after.
