Keyless Ghost Option?
So my passenger side keyless go has been dead for like 5 months. It will not open unless I unlock another door, and then it will open. IT ALSO WILL NOT LOCK THE DOOR WITH THE HANDLE BUTON. Meh, whatever. I just use the remote when I let my GF into the car. Well as of 2 days ago, my driver's side front isn't responding. I have to use the remote to unlock it. Grrrr. Push to start still works, AND IF I PUSH THE BUTTON ON THE DRIVER SIDE HANDLE, IT WILL LOCK THE CAR.
WHAT...THE....?
It makes me think this may be a software issue vs. the door handle being bad. Why would the button work, but not the ability to open it with my keys in the pocket. I changed batteries in my remote a month ago, so it can't be that.
Should I disconnect the batteries possibly and see if that fixes it?
Thanks guys. Keyless go is my favorite damn feature on this car.

What sucks about my car is the handles are half white so I can't just get another used one or a new one and throw it in, I also have to get it painted.

I must agree with this. The failure can occur for multiple reasons not just door handles going bad. The antenna/antenna connections can also go bad. Only using SDS can properly diagnose what is going on. The SDS would be able to tell you if it is detecting the button presses and can tell you if it can detect if the key is in range. It requires both to be present to successfully activate lock/unlock.
The handles are lousy.
Water gets in, and corrodes the switches. In the winter, water gets in and freezes....
I'm considering buying a case of handles so that I've always got replacements when I need one.

DAS Xentry (or Star) is the only way to diagnose it. Just take a look at the attached layout diagram. Lots of modules, antennas, motors, etc. (I deleted a few non essential pages so that it would meet upload size restriction)
BTW, as these cars get older, the start button wire starts to wear/chafe at the hole's sharp edges, where it exists the chrome shifter housing, eventually breaking. As it starts breaking through the wires, you'll get intermittent starts and or stalling, when shifting into gear.
See "Sticky", from the W211 forum, for repair. Great write up. : https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...re-broken.html
Last year I lost ALL my KG functions, after disconnecting the main battery for about a half hr (I also had broken KG wire). Took it to the dealer yesterday and DAS Xentry showed no codes. But, for whatever reason, running the Quick Test scan brought the whole KG system back to life. Go figure!.
