Yea he posted pics up on m3forum it's a 6MT too which is awesome. My good friend just bought one a few months ago with the SMG for $26k and the warranty already covered $22k in repairs (subframe, vanos, and smg pump).

Out Of Control!!
Such pieces of crap. The large majority of owners I know have had nothing but problems with them.
I think the 6spd should be more trouble free.
I had one buddy who's Vanos offed itself, multiple with SMG issues(leaking pumps, replaced pumps) one failed mid shift and killed the trans. Think I would pick a S65 over the M5

BMW M5 + E55 AMG
A S65 and M5 are hardly even comparable. Two completely different machines. One is a long comfortable cruiser, the other is a driver-focussed machine.
Yes, the SMG pumps are known to be super troublesome - just like the airmatic issues on the E55s
. All modern performance cars have their quirks.
Jon seems to have done it right by getting a 3 pedal E60 M5. I for one am envious. 3 pedals, a glorious motorsport inspired V10 that spins to 8K RPM? Nirvana.

2012 Volt - 2005 E55 - 2011 G55 - 2013 GL63
Dang how did you find out I bought a Volt??
For real I traded my C230 in on Sunday for Volt to drive for work daily. Still have the E55, just trying to balance my carbon footprint, haha!

I like M5's, or atleast the idea of one. I was in the position before i purchased my e55 cross shopping with the e60 m5. The e55 is far more superior IMO. The manual is a great choice for the e60, no SMG failures or red cog of death. The v10 in that car is not an ounce of reliable, you HAVE to change the rod bearings out every 50-60k miles. The vanos high pressure oil pump is plagued with problems from the lines and pump itself, and when it fails, you have no idea that its happening. Check on m5 board and look at all the destroyed motors from rod bearings and vanos pump going out, its HORRIBLE. And on top of that getting 9/10mpg in the city is a huge gas guzzler, have to rev the hell out of the car to get it going. Cool car none the less, just not for me. lol hope the new buyer enjoys it.

Always interesting to read what people think of the E60 M5. For me, it is my second SMG, and never had any issues with either one. The sound of the motor at 8750 rpm with full headers and performance exhaust is something you have to experience.

My dad had an E60 M5 with the SMG and I HATED that transmission. The rev happy nature of the V10 was intoxicating though.
His new 14 M5 with the competition package and DCT transmission is light years ahead of the E60 version. The torque produced by the V8 and twin turbos makes the car much more fun to drive on a daily basis.

I always thought what an E60 M5 would be like. What if we're used to the torque that our 55Ks put out? Would that make the E60 M5 less exciting?

Out Of Control!!
I had one for about a week, but at that time I was used to driving modded GTRs, I didn't think they were all that interesting, unless I was beating on it. Since it wasn't my car, I didn't beat on it
