Lightbulb Shifting into "optimal gear range" feature

I'm pretty new around here but I've chatted with two other E55 owners that didn't know about this feature, so I thought I'd share for anyone else that might like to know. I call it "ready mode".... Great if you knew this already, and great if you didn't!

Holding it over to + puts it back into normal/D. I use this quite often, just getting ready to pass, or play.

.
All sorts of interesting things can be discovered by reading the owners manual.....

It can be a tough read though. There are parts I've read several times and STILL don't understand what the hell they are talking about.

So does this place the shifting into an even more "sporty" mode than just S?

If so, then that would be awesome! Need to try this...

EDIT: Or, does it just hold that lower gear for that one time you shift and hold into D- direction until you switch back to normal/D?

Just mash the throttle, sounds like too much headache than just goosing it hard!

If you go WOT in 'S' mode, the tranny will downshift into the lowest gear for optimal acceleration (i.e. power range).

All it does is downshift into the lowest gear available for the speed you're traveling.

It's good if you're getting ready to do a race from a roll. Say you're in 5th and doing 40 mph. Push and hold the downshift button and it'll drop into 2nd a.k.a. rape gear.

I'm going to have to try it and see how it works exactly. Thanks for sharing.
