Not exactly a SLR testdrive
well, i went to test drive on sat. Apparently SLR has not arrived. However, did drove the Maybach 57.
for the 1st time in my life, i can smell the wood in the car than I do the leather. The leather is by far the best leather surface i have sit on. TV reception on the rear is exceptional.
The car actually handle quiet well. No non-linear brakes and steering as compare to the E55. This car does not feel like it's a 6000 lb limo.
complaints- this car is not as quiet as i thought it would be. Too much road noise coming from the rear suspension. Pricing is too high to justify. For $300k car i expect the 57 to come with same power reclining seat, and other goodies from 62.

Most importantly - Is there a Donut holder next to the cup holders? Can you get a Big Gulp or Large Slurpee cup in the cup holders?

Hey KrispyKreme, I was at the same dealership as you on Saturday. I was there to check out an E500 I'm thinking of picking up. I saw the Maybach's there, and they did look nice. I didn't take a test drive, though. At 300k, I'm not sure I'd go for that car. Of course, that's not a decision I'll be making anytime soon!

i think i saw you at the dealership.
you were with your wife right? i was leaving when I saw an asian couple checking out a silver E500. I guess its around 1:00 that time frame.
Norb- the nav still stinks. no change from the S-class. in fact the whole dash is from S except material is much much better.
E55 Kev, hmm. I forgot to check out for the kk holder. If my parent is getting one, I will need to check that out. A true luxury car needs to hold a dozen KK on the side so I can reach it any time i want. The cup holder are huge, you can fit a tall bottle of wine easily. The rear frige is cool. Nothing like a cold one with KK on the side. However, i thin the car is too long to drive through KK's drive through.
Someone should tell KK to make a huge turn around area for maybach.
