Dr Chill what's up with your spare....

Can you give details on the spare tire you're carrying? Is it a rear wheel? Is it a true spare?

Currently I'm carrying an 18 x 8 front AMG 5 spoke wheel that is part of a set I got for my mother in law's E500 with a worn Continental Sport Contact. It takes up most of the trunk but beats being stranded and should work in the rear if needed

Dr. Chill,

Not knowing that much about tires, will that fit on both the front and back and be able to clear the massive brakes?

Also, why don't you put it below the truck. The guy at the dealership told me you can take out the lining and there should be enough room for an 18 inch tire to fit.

The wheel is the same as the ones offered as a no cost option when ordering an E55. It will fit identically to the twin spoke wheel in front. In the rear, the clearance from strut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 22mm MORE, the outside edge of the wheel will RETRACT in towards the body by 4mm.

Dr. Chill,

So does that mean I should order the front wheel for my spare? Do you know how much that is going to cost. I will be going to Las Vegas in January and don't want to drive in the desert without a spare.

Thanks.

The front definitely fits on the back and vice versa. I swapped them to see if I could get the backs on the front. There were no clearance issues with either.
