Want that crackle
Hi Guys,
I was wondering what all i need to do ot the exhaust to get that crackle and pop. I love it when i hear the guys on youtube that have a good sounding exhaust and when they let off the throttle it pops and cracks.
I dont really want to do long tubes as i live in phoenix and i heard that they are hard to get through emissions here.
Thanks,
B

I have C63 mufflers on an otherwise stock exhaust. It sounds really good. No crackle though.
You will probably have to get rid of the resonator for the rice crispy experience.

I think the crackle comes from higher compression, more aggressive valve overlap, and a lean condition during off throttle. It's probably not gonna happen on a 55...with the possible exception of a bad tune.

Phoenix doesn't really have restrictive emissions. As long as you don't get a CEL then you won't have a issue with running headers. I've had 600hp Hondas on HAV gas go through emissions with no issue.

I get a good amount of the crackle your talking about when I have the cutouts open. I'm also running long tubes and full 3in piping to the cutouts at the axle.

My buddy has an 04 E55 with an eisenmann exhaust it sounds amazing but I have not heard that crack and pop noise. It really is something special.

Got rid of my resonators and gutted the mufflers, but I also had headers and an x-pipe. Mine sounds like satans V8. I did it in stages and I can tell you that gutting the mufflers made the biggest sound improvement by far. Lots of crackling on the down change and the cheapest option. You will never get the same sound as a 63 because it is a higher compression N/A motor. My next step is to remove the mufflers altogether and run the tips straight out of the exhaust pipe. A guy in my neighbourhood has an E63 with gutted mufflers, nothing else - that thing sounds like a nascar on steroids.

I have w211 e63 too and would like the exhaust to crackle. Do you have stock exhaust otherwise? What do you have instead of the resonator? Just a pipe or x pipe?

my car makes some concussive pops when slowing down in traffic. I'll try to get some footage for you. I believe it comes from the exhaust never merging. Neither bank touches the other bank.
