You M boys will always be outdone in the HP department by AMG, historically maybe not, but wait and see. And if the 55's can't take you, the 65's sure as hell will!

ps, I should have started with "Not Kain again"

Last minute power increase for E55 AMG!!!

Quote from the latest CAR magazine-

"It seems that the power war hasn't ended-MB has decided to put the the enormous 7.3ltr AMG engine(found in the Pagani Zonda) into the current E-class,it will be labelled "E73 AMG and would retail for about $220,000.Expect astonishing performance figures- 0-60mph in 4.05 sec and a top speed(unlimited) of about 190mph.This is supposed to be Mercedes-Benz answer to the BMW M5 which would be released about the same time"

Just joking!!!!

Pretty awesome, but for around 6 grand Renntech can get the W211 to 3.9 seconds 0-60.

This is along the same lines as the "enlarge your manhood" spam that I get hourly in my email. I am completely uninterested since I have no inadequacy issues.:o

BryBenz, I'll second that one. I had a 325IS that was very nice so I considered an M5, but I think BMW really missed the mark with their new 5 series styling. I think for most of us, styling is a critical issue. When I park my C32 and walk away, I look back at it and get an inner smile. The same will be true and more so with the E55.

hey guys,

i just purchased the last 03 M5 my dealer had last night.
i got such a terrific deal on the car that i just
couldn't pass it up. the car is really a pleasure to drive.
not as fast as the new E55 but still a pretty quick car.
i also hate the direction that BMW is going with their
styling. no matter how much HP they put in the new
M5 ...what good is it if you have to look at that idiotic trunk
design??
when i drive the car a little bit more i'll post some of my
impressions..good and bad

Porsche Turbo Stage 4, Cayenne S ... gone C43, C32, ML55 & Ducati 999.
my friends..........

HP sells cars...........TORQUE win races

the current E55 with 5 speed auto will be easy quicker than a new 550 hp M5.....remember the E55 "truly has 520 to 530 hp and has a 150 more ft-lb TQ.....even more my current "C" (415 hp & 420 tq, 3600 lb car) it may be really even with the new M5.

Dude, how did you find time to pry yourself away flaming the Lexus forums to get this deal together?

If you don't mind, how much off sticker did you get and how many miles were on the car?

Enjoy the last remaining new BMW that I actually love.

If you think that the new M5 (if it has 550HP) will get beat by the E55, you're smoking crack. Torque doesn't win races...There are many factors that contribute to performance. My 911 Turbo with only 415tq is way quicker than my E55 0-60. It should be for 50k more!!! I have said from day one that the E55 has too much torque given the tire size...I can't accelerate while in 1st without the traction control kicking in...and that sucks...it slows the car down.

BMW will not introduce the new M5 unless it beats the MB. That would be a huge failure...2 years later to market and slower??? It ain't happening. I still think the MB is a much nicer car...But I haven't withdrawn my deposit on the new M5 just in case I change my mind.

hi dr. chill,

the car was brand new with only 21 miles on it. it is the last of the old style M5's that they are getting. i got $5100.00 off of the msrp($74500). approximately $500 over dealer invoice. after doing some research on the net and calling some dealers around the country that still have 1 or 2 M5's in stock i got a great deal!
most of the dealers are trying to stick to msrp or only a $1000.00 off. the car is very very nice. 5 minutes into the test drive i knew i was buying this car. it is not like anything i have ever driven. very tight, sporty, and yet still comfortable.

as for the Lexus guys.....they better watch out.....i'm still gunning for them

The E55 can hit 0-60 in 4.0 sec without any engine modification. All that would be required is a rear end gearing change and wider stickier tires. MB chose to use a 2.65:1 ratio because of the tremendous amount of torque present knowing that they couldn't shoehorn 315 tires to fit to handle the power at a more commonly used ratio such as 3.44:1 found in your Porsche Turbo. The Porsche is faster from 0-60 but slower than the E55 from 60-100. The E55 shines when the car is moving, especially from 80mph up. Having raced on the tracks with Porsche tt's, I can tell you that they did pull away from me in the turns, but I gained ground on the straights. Unfortunately the MB is so heavy that it cannot compete with other high powered true sports cars on the track.

Regarding the upcoming M5, I suspect better 0-60 times for the M5 but comparable 1/4 mile times due to the E55's tall gearing and huge torque. It's appearance would still be a deterent but the new look has somewhat grown on me. After driving a new 545i, the car is lightyears ahead of the W211 in handling. MB should truly research the new 5 to improve on its own chassis and suspension design, and vica versa for BMW regarding style and class.

Well said at the end there...they could both learn from each other....imagine a car with the better looks, interior, and motor of the MB and the sportier chassis of the BMW with 315s and a gearbox choice (along with Japanese electronics). I would be in heaven!!! I think its only a matter of a few more years and someone will hit the nail on the head. Don't be shocked if it cames from Japan...they have capitalzed on improving german ideas for years. Who knows...the next super sedan might be a Lexus!?

Ok ..I got your point but remember your 911 Turbo with only 415tq is way quicker than my E55 0-60 based on 4WD and nice TQ/lb. My current "C" has similar TQ/lb but the E55 is better than both cars ..the problem is traction. The future M5 will be RWD, as far as I know, and the TQ/lb will be identical to the current one....nevertheless at that point there are 2 more factors, the ratios and the how much stiffer is the rear suspension. Sure the ratio will be well calibrated for BMW with a new SMG 7 speed...but the rear suspension and the huge 19' may not help that much on straight line acceleration.....on the other hand, SURE in corner abilities. For personal experience I needed to upgrade the rear suspension of my "C" based in the big change of torque from 332 to 420 using the RENNtech springs that are softer and progressive on the rear...well the car starts better now... and further the w211 E55 starts better with "Comfort Mode" as well.

besides.. I do not smoke

Smart! I don't smoke either The 911's advantage comes from a lightning quick 1st gear....in some ways too quick...just when it is starting to feel good you have to shift. The AWD on the 911 isn't all that great. The fronts get very little action in straight line acceleration. The big help is in the cornering. Since I got the E55, I seldom drive the 911...the E55 is a lot of fun, plus my drive to work is only around 5 miles

One other huge difference is the turbo vs. the supercharger. After driving both, the turbo feels "wrong". I am actually surprised turbos still exist...s'chargers are so much better in every way. No lag, no surprise power surge, much more linear delivery etc... If the E55 could really handle, I would have it as my only car and not want anything else, but the much lighter 911 is still much more fun to drive overall. I am still awaiting the perfect car...wonder who will build it first?
