Used E63 AMG
Hi guys, I'm aiming at purchasing a 2008 E63 AMG 78k driven for $27000 with taxes included. Is this a good deal? It's clean carfax and title. The only downside is I have to pay around $4k for extended warrant from mercedes. Do you think an AMG with 78k driven is a lot? Will it go up to 150-200k easily? Thank you guys. BTW FIRST POST

27k with tax included isnt bad at all. Get a ppi done for warranty expect to pay 2 to 4.5 grand.. depends on coverage n term

What does the warranty cover ?
How long is the warranty term ?
How many miles do you drive per year ?
All these things matter when you think about purchasing a warranty.

after calling 2-3 benz dealers, no one is offering me more than 2 years warranty. At 2 years, 12k a year, they're quotiing 4500. Anyone know where I can get extended 3+ year warranty on a 78k driven amg?

Your gonna pay for it one way or another. Either up front with the "warranty" or slowly overtime. Sounds like you want to wrap it into the loan.
By the way..2+ years with my car and ZERO issues and thats with 500whp
Shouldve bought the warranty

Airmatic about 2-3k(arnott) fuel tank and sending units 3.5k (if it hasnt come up in the 78k miles already its coming)
Those are two major issues that imo are inevitable
Plus scheduled maintenance btw brakes are another major expense
Did I miss anything?

Sorry friend, but...
There are no Mercedes cars that are engineered for 150-200k anymore. It is not the world we live in. The cars are good through the initial warranty period, and about enough for one dealer certification, but that's all. The raw materials are no longer in the cars to do that.
Not enough space to get in a theoretical discussion here but in the forseeable future, you will not be able to keep a car for that long. Might need to rethink your plan.

Is this being sold via an MB dealership? If so, why is it not CPO? 2008 is the year cutoff for CPO, and mileage cutoff is 80k.
I think that's a good price - provided you can get VMI and any other documentation that it has been well-maintained.

Warranty is a big help. Airmatics shocks and components, Fuel Pump, and new Intake Manifold. Overall 10k in repairs, paid $100 with National Warranty. So it's up to you... I paid a total of 3500 with the cost of the warranty. I think thats pretty good deal. I suggest reading the terms of the warranty though. Some require you pay the tax portion, and read the not covered portion real well. They get tricky with the wording. A good service tech and mechanic should be good are wording the problem or, they could be the one who causes a claim to be denied.

Just to clarify....
New Hondas might go a Bit longer, but not much. And Lexus cars have the same problems as a Benz...the level of complexity is so high--along with the potential of repair. Now, factor in the cost of these complex parts, along with the fact that the manufacturer really doesn't want you to drive an older car, and you have your Catch22. Have you seen what MB and BMW have done to the prices of parts in the last year or two? Perhaps you don't realize that not only have the prices dramatically risen (20-25% on everything), the quality of the parts has substantively decreased--at the manufacturers demand. A shame....

Yep...fuel tank issues...some people have 2 get that fuel leaking job done 2 times.
Again...its a nice money making scam. We are suckers.
Look at me...I am considering an e55

Knock on wood, I've had excellent luck on my prior 2002 E55 as well as current 06 CLK55 cab and 07 E63. The engine and transmission should be strong, so it'll be the other components that are usually at risk. The airmatic shouldn't be as bad as before as the rebuilds from Arnott are quite a bit less than OEMs. The key is trying to find a good one. Sometimes even a well-cared for dealer MB can be an issue vs. one that's driven hard but just built well. Good luck.

Im buying from a 3rd party dealer. Im then going to take it to the dealer to get extended warranty. They all told me 70k was the cutoff for 3 years.

Extended Warranty <> CPO. And I wasn't aware that MB actually offered direct extended warranty. Most, if not all warranties are through the dealership and not MB themselves. Be careful regarding the warranty terms as well (exclusionary vs. inclusionary). Good luck!

It is a good deal provided the car passes muster. Have that dealership you are talking to about the warranty do the PPI and you are golden.

Just FYI....
There is no CPO for cars brought in from another dealer. Must be sold/inspected/gone thru at an MB store. Not that it matters that much. People seem to think that CPO is an extension of your factory warranty, which is a long ways from accurate.

So my goal was this.
1) Buy the car for $27k clean after taxes from a 3rd party dealer. They offered me 1.5k extended warranty but I declined because it's probably a ****ty extended warranty.
2) Before purchasing the car, take it to a benz dealer to pass a PPO. If PPO passes, I would then go buy the car from the 3rd party dealer then come back to the benz dealer to get the extended warranty.
3) This was my plan until I talked to 2-3 benz dealerships and they told me at 78k driven the best extended warranty we can offer you is 2 year at around $5000. Obviously this is too much for too little time.
Any comments? Any ideas? Anyone know someone that will offer reliable warranty for a used 78k e63.
thank you guys.
