Is this pulley bad or something else ? (video)

The s/c pulley has less than 30k kms (15k miles on it) does the bearing go bad that fast? or this is something else?

Or all is well and this is normal ?

I will contact the vendor but wondering what exactly is wrong here ? the bearing ?

My normal pulley had 160k kms on it and that didn't make this noise.

You mean the supercharger itself has a problem ?

Sounds like the clutch is rubbing from not fully releasing. Most likely just a mater of setting the the last with the correct size spacing shims.

Do not be alarmed. It's just a bad pulley. Contact the supplier and they should help out. Ask me how I know.

I see, the rivets that join the pulley to the drive plate failed, right?

I spoke with the vendor and they said send it in for review (inspection).

Now that's going to cost me money -so before that I will just try adding more shims and see.

Man I wish there was some vendor close to me (locally) lol

my bearing went bad ~18k miles

when it wears it can induce some of the gap issues you see as well since the bearing has lost it's capability to hold the rotation

So how do I confirm if the bearing is bad or the pulley ?

I'm getting mixed responses here. Some say pulley some say bearing.

My sound is a bit different than yours.

I'll try taking off the belt and then hearing it again.

to check either one you've gotta pull it off, so you can see the bearing - they're < $80 for a new one

if the springs are bad that'll be pretty evident - my guess is the bearing
I was pretty freaked out by the sound as well, and swapping in a new bearing was the fix

So it's common for these sc pulleys to fail? Did you get reimbursed for labor/shipping at least? Maybe we should start a list of failed pulleys. The number seems to get higher everyday and that's just based on what's reported on the forum.

There is a thread here which had a list of people who had the pulley fail on them.

Most of them got a replacement. I don't think they got reimbursed for the labor or shipping.

For example the vendor is asking me to return the pulley for inspection, now living in canada it'll cost a lot to send the pulley back just for
inspection and as suggested in this thread I'll try to get the problem diagnosed through Indy mechanic first and if nothing comes out of it. I'll have no option but to send it back then.

I always thought that the pulleys that failed had a lot of miles on them but I guess I was wrong since mine has less than 15k miles on it.

I put a new NACHI bearing in mine (stock size) as an ounce of prevention. One year and 30,000mi later it's dry and noisy. I'm wondering if it is a counterfeit now. Got it off ebay somewhere.

I made another video of the car running.

It does not sound like the bearing is bad compared to the upper video. Sounds similar to what "TheVazha" posted.

From the video it looks like the clutch plate distance is not the same all around? Is that real or does it just look like that in the video?

Oh and where did you get your pulley because I think I need one also?

You are right and I've been told that it's due to the fact that the springs have gone bad and aren't retracting or

allowing proper retraction.

If you want similar pulley (S/C) get it from someone local cuz if it does go bad - at least sending this one back or getting a new one won't be an issue.

You can get it from anyone B.I.P , Shardul , Eurocharged. Not sure if Kleeman or Renntech sell this.
