E left me stranded out of town.

About 2 hours from home I get to a stop light and everything is normal. I hit the gas pedal to accelerate and she just revs, no go. Shut it down and restart does nothing to resolve the problem. Reverse doesn't work either. Shut it down for 5 minutes and then drive works until I stop again about 15 feet. Then the same thing. Engine revs no forward motion. I'm new to automatics so is this a valve body symptom, torque converter, clutch packs?

If it works after a restart, then the problem is most likely electrical. Two possibilities, the electrical plug to transmission has been known to leak, and when it dose the ATF goes up the loom to the TCU and floods it. Second if any drink has been spilled on / in the center console that can cause problems too, as there is an electrical transmission controller in there.

Have you seen any reddish brown spots on the garage floor under middle of car where trans would be?they usually drip bit when the trans electrical connector seal is the problem. If so, connector seal fluid issue could be confusing system as previous reply indicated. Have you recently serviced the trans fluid itself or the level?

I would scan for speed sensor issues in the TCu from DAS.
I had similar issue and it was the conductor plate.
I was an easy fix only about 50 mins and $200 with fluid flush.

I haven't noticed any spots. I serviced the trans about 10k miles ago. I will have to get under and do a thorough look over though.

I will take it to get scanned tomorrow. Hoping its the connector or conductor. Just debating whether to drive it or tow it. everything seems fine at the moment but it freaked out after about a 2 hour drive.

Just checked the tcu and its got oil all the way up the wire loom and on the lower part of the unit. Going to try cleaning out the tcu, cleaning up the harness and replacing the plug and o rings. Hope that's it! thanks again for the quick and helpful replies!

Thanks E! I appreciate that. The worst part was wasting family time, made it all the way to sanibel island and this happens. Timing was awful! Luckily it didnt ruin the weekend, we shipped the E back and got a rental

Hopefully this one is an easy fix. I already hit up walmart for some contact cleaner and cleaned out the tcu and harness. Oil all over the connectors and harness, not so much inside the tcu thankfully. I can definitely see the ability to jump contacts with the amount of oil that was there. Going to try and get the rest sorted tomorrow.

This place is a joke.
You can pry the TCU case and slide the circuit board out for a good cleaning if you haven't already. New trans. connector and clean both ends of the wire harness and you should be fine.

I assume that replacing the seal is a no-brainer. Is that correct? Did they come up with a new part to supersede the original, failing one?
Thx

MB has revised the part at least 6 times. I haven't seen any of the latest version leaking again.

I pried it open last night and cleaned everything with electrical contact cleaner. Luckily there was only oil at the very edge of the board on the green part, nothing on any of the electrical interconnects. The oil made it mostly just through the harness and onto the male pins on the TCU. I am going to pick up the transmission plug soon and a new red tab for the filler so I can check the fluid level. Crossing my fingers this is the only issue and no permanent problems on the TCU.

Oil on the corner

after touching the wire loom

Just from touching the wire loom

Oil on the harness

ATF in the passenger footwell

small pool of oil on the bottom right black plastic. Luckily very minimal on the green board.

How hard is it to replace the connector/seal in the transmission?
I replaced Filter and Gasked of the pan once, but i thoight you have to remove the conductor-plate and/pr valvebody to get to the connector, right?

I look complicated and time intensive from below on my CL 55 AMG Kompressor at least. Please tell me your experiences :-)
Thanks alot

102k on the car.

So I changed the leaky adapter in the trans. Put the new one and cleaned the crap out of everything.. multiple times. She started and drove around for a minute than the same issue. This time I got a CEL and code p0730. Turning the car off/on fixes the problem for a short trip then back to n movement just revs. I'm thinking it's time for a pro with good tools to diagnose.

Did you check the fluid level with the factory tool (dipstick?) Only half a quart low could cause the transmission to slip.

P730 is the same code I got when my conductor plate went out but do as greasemonkey said check your trans oil level first and then clear codes and try a few runs

Fluid level was good before the electric plug change. I tried removing and adding fluid to see the problem cleared up but no luck. The car will be towed in the morning to a shop for sds diagnosis.
