Possibly Getting Back Into An AMG in Next 60 Days - 1 Question

Peeps,

Finances are aligning where I'll most likely be getting back into an AMG in the next 60 days so just question for you all. Should I go for a 2009 E63 or a 2010 E63 instead?

My logic is with the 2009, most/all of the bugs should be worked out but alternatively, with a 2010, are there any, "Must have's" with this year that I'd be missing out?

Honestly just going with the E63 for the motor and this will be my DD and I drive 100 miles daily too and from work. (most/all freeway). So important factors to me is/will be a fair degree of reliability & perhaps comfort but that's honestly secondary. (I'll get getting an extended warranty as well)

Also which ventilated seats are better 2009 or 2010? I live in AZ so this will be a nice addition.

Will be good to be back!

Thanks!

Alex

CLS55
Alex,

I'm strongly considering trading in my CLS55 on an 09 E63. I have driven the 09 E63 and 10 E63 back to back, recently this past weekend.

The 2010 feels like a completely different car. From the transmission, suspension, electronics and feel. If you are willing to pay the premium for the 2010, I wouldn't think twice.

I, however, love the look of the 09 E63 and am willing to deal with the older electronics and suspension in order to get the body lines I enjoy.

The partial coil suspension in the 2010 e63 is world's better than the full airmatic in the 09. The exhaust sounds much better and the transmission snaps off shifts quicker than the 09.

Plus, you are getting a new generation which will hold better value come trade in time.

Good luck with either. The car is great, but unfortunately doesn't have near the grunt that the 55k motor has.

Thanks Mike, much appreciated, haven't driven both back to back. As I had an E55 whose body lines are very similar to the 2009 E63, leaning toward the 2010 E63 for a new(er) experience, but wasn't sure if the old adage of, "Don't buy the first year of a new car model" holds for the 2010.

Sounds like it doesn't and am willing to pay the premium for a '10 E63. And yes I will miss the nearly 700 lb/ft of torque my modded E55 had.

Thanks again.

If you can afford to step up to the 2010 I say go for it!! It will help with resale, and all the new features/electronics will be a nice upgrade. I personally have never driven a 2010 but I love the new design of both the interior and exterior. If I had the moe y at the time I would of gotten into one when I bought my car.

Car free at the moment
The 2010 is the first year for the MCT transmission. Might want to do some research before diving into the 2010. There have been complaints about the lack of smoothness and quirks of the MCT. Not so much reliability issues, but more liveability issues, as best I can tell.

2010 is the way to go. The W212 is really sexy and very aggressive

09 is a beaut, but the w212 grew on me throughout the years, the '14's front is beautiful though.
What's a good deal on a 2010 nowadays?

The one I'm looking at is an '10 with 36K miles for $44K. Probably going to buy one through CarMax so I can get one of their awesome warranties that will cover it up to 125K miles, with a $50 deductible for around ~3K. CarMax has the best warranties in the business and it saved me a ton of money with my E55.
