E55 vs RS6 Review

BMW made an E34 M5 Touring a while back. Heck, I wouldn't mind being buried in it!

That would be like a BMW 330i being faster than an M3.

you have forgotten talk about a possible M7, while there is already the 760 out there. Im sure they are not well founded, but still. Sure there is overlap there for the informed consumer. There are, however, people who feel one way is more presitigous than the other. While we know the AMG brand, some people associate the "Top of the Line" with having the "600" on the back of their trunks and will pay to get it. Mercedes realizes this and I'm sure that is why the continue to make both.

The topic of the thread has shifted so I'm going to put it back on track by responding to the posts bashing the RS6.
If you don't like it, pretend it dosen't exist.
If you want to turn fast, get an M5. If you want to go very fast get an RS6. If you want to save a few bucks and look good, get a Jag S-Type R. If you want a little bit of everything, get the E55. As for MB quality, I've heard that it hasn't been so hot in the past few years ,mostly due to problems with the complexity of the COMAND system.

E55 over RS6, definitely!
If you want a dated looking car with huge depreciation, RS6. If you want a sedan with terrible rides and no map navigation, RS6.
With the new A6 around the corner, I would definitely wait. Why not drive the current E55 for a year, see if you like the new M5, if so, drive the M5 for another year and then trade it in for the new RS6.
MB quality on the E55 has been great. Perfectly happy with it. The same cannot be said about our 2002 Audi A4 Avant 3.0 Quattro which has been in the shop 6 times for a rattle fix. I can deal with occasional electronic issues (they always get fixed sooner or later with new parts), but hard to trace rattles and squeaks is a big no-no in my books.

If you want to go very fast get an RS6? I've yet to read a review where the RS6 beat the E55. As for the Comand system being complicated, that's another one of those review items that now leaves me scratching my head. Must be the same mentality as those who can't program a VCR. Anything that takes the slightest bit of thought or has you actually DOING something is too complicated.

COMAND isn't complicated, it just takes a few more steps that shouldn't be there, but saying it's complicated is baffling me. I agree with Mr. Edward Conroy, the COMAND is (IMO) useless and crappy, but in NO WAY complicated.

Agree, COMAND is not complicated at all, far more user friendly than iDrive, for example. I prefer dealing with clearly marked buttons over a control knob or touch screen.

iDrive is actually quite friendly, but I think they should add in touch-screen redundancy to simplify the whole process. Thankfully, the Rolls Royce, 5 and 6 Series are recieving revised versions of iDrive that include less iDrive only functions.

Good thing they're moving away from it, the less iDrive only functions, the better.

Had a weird thing happen today with the Command system. I was listening to FM and it didn't have that kick *** sound I was used to. I had set the bass and treble two notches down from max. I checked and the bass and treble were set mid way and the sound was set to standard. Then I remembered I had turned Command off and on when my 6 disc hung up. Must have reset to factory standards. Just in case there is anyone out there who hasn't set this, try the bass and treble two down from max and make sure sound is set to Logic 7 Surround. It makes a world of difference.
