The starting issue is back. 2 weeks give or take of no issues and today it decides to not start for 20 minutes. There is no crank, no fire, no sound whatsoever. Then it manic ally starts like nothing is wrong. Only when it's hot, or sits in the sun (110F parking lot for 6-8 hours).

I've gathered a list of what it could be
Starter
Starter Solenoid
CPS
Bad Ground
Loose connection

I know most members like shiny new rims, cool, carbon fiber upgrades, and big shout exhuast. I wish I could post my new 20" rims.

I need some tech savvy members to chime in on this and give me some real pointers on what could be the issue. I can replace the CPS this weekend, but what about swapping the starter/solenoid? Any tips or tricks?

My scanguage shows no active or pending codes.

It could also be the front SAM. You can monitor the circuit 50 out put and see if you are getting the supply voltage to the starter solenoid. A faulty CPS will give a crank/ no start symptom. The EIS which supplies the circuit 50 signal could also be a factor.

It seems like your thread is not getting much attention. You should consider creating a new thread with a brief explanation of the problem. IMO the tech savvy guys will see the thread title and respond.

Good idea. She started fine today. I'll post up around lunch time.

I think I may tow it to BIP and have them play with it. Currently driving a straight piped V10 M5 and it isn't well received by my clients...I wonder why.

All symptoms point at the crank sensor. Once the engines heat soaked and shut off it won't restart until some time has elapsed and cooled down some correct? I'm assuming the starter is cranking. If so go pick up a crank sensor it's located on the back drivers side of the engine where the bellhousing meets the block basically. Your issue should be fixed.

The problem only occurs when hot, you are correct. The starter will either do nothing, or "bump" a few times then start normally. I'll swap the CPS and report back. I'll search for some DIY's on the sensor replacement.

OK, with that being said it can't be the Crank Sensor. As that has no bearing on if the starter will turn, I've seen on couple 55k cars in particularly if they've had leaking valve cover on the passengers side it will wick down into the starters and cause a slow crank or no crank when the engine oil is warm and more "fuild" in the higher engine bay temp, causing the voltage drop to be to large and rendering the starter shorted more or less. I'd say check your starter visually for contamination.

There is a slight oil leak on the driver side. I need to tighten the valve cover or replace the gasket. I will put it on the lift tonight and clean it up under there and inspect. My guess was the solenoid, but I can't find any issues similar to mine.

I am thinking of replacing the starer, solenoid, and CPS just to have a clean slate. I'll post pictures of what I find tonight.

I did post a video earlier in the thread. It may help you under stand what I'm seeing/hearing.
Here is the link to the video.

CPS, I've gone thru like 5-6 different 'no start' issues. I haven't had a problem since. Plus they're super cheap. Very nice to see another Tektite Grey here on the forums. Nice rides around your car.

I looked at dozens of 55's, none of them really grabbed my eye. The second I saw the Tektite I jumped on it. I went to sleep antsy, woke up antsy, wrote the check and was still antsy.

Thanks. Can't have to much HP in the garage.

I got mine at the auction and I thought it was the baby blue color in the photos. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the real paint color. A wash and wax does wonders, throw on some tire shine and the whole car just pops, especially in the evening. Also helps to have a V8 Kompressor .

I replaced the starter relay and I no luck. Ordered a CPS on amazon for $36 and considering a starter replacement.

I can look at it this way...at least I'll have fresh parts and know what's new and whats not.

Any others with starter issues that ended up in a replacement?

Welcome to the board! Another Tectite in Atlanta? Boo...Hiss... I liked having the only one I knew of.

And funny about your airmatic issue... on the exact same day (I swear) my right front went out as well!

Cheers.

Yeah, as I mentioned before to me its seeming like a starter issues. There's more signal then meets the eye with the tip start, and is that starter is not working correctly it will cause that momentary click or slight bump start without starting. Good luck, and if you have any other questions i'd be happy to help if I can.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions. The more and more I read the more and more I feel uncomfortable digging into this. I have a appt set up with BIP next Thursday for them to dig around the car and figure out what is wrong with it. I plan to have an answer by next Friday and ordering parts about that time too. My gut points to the starter, but this cars are so complicated!

I saw a E63 Bi-Turbo the other day and couldn't take my eyes off the shiny exhuast pipes. I gave in and broke out the sand paper and got to work.

Starting off with 320 for the heavy soot, moved to 2000 grit. They are now shiny again! I did the inside as well.

I plan on a full detail Sunday. Everything from lug nuts to full buff.

2003 E320 (W211) also starting to look for a CL55 or E55
Your starting problem when the cars hot is without a doubt a crankshaft sensor

I had pulled over one day and put my flasher on. I noticed every time the blinkers flashed the interior lights would dim lightly. I replaced both batteries and haven't had a starting issue since. It's also about 40*F cooler outside than when I first had the issue.
