M156 Concerns

Hi everybody,

So I've heard about a lawsuit that occurred with the original M156 engines over reliability and that the engine in the E55 for the W211 is bullet proof.

Has anyone has any problems with their E63 for reliability? Just looking for a little peace of mind or if I should sell the vehicle before a certain point on the odometer.

Cheers,
TTR

I really don't think you have much to worry about. I see e63 and c63's for sale all the time with 80-95,000 miles and no hint of an issue. The number of actual failures is very small compared to the number of engines produced from 2007-2010. The issue seems to be more of an assembly mistake than a design flaw. Think of it like this, If the head bolts were failing due to flawed material then a majority of the engines would fail at or around the same time frame. Most seemed to fail either right away or within 40,000 miles. More to that, the time frame seemed to be within the first year to three years. The way I see it, the weak ones have taken themselves out of the gene pool by now.

Thanks for the reply! Lol the previous owner was a 60+ yr old lady and I've seen her drive her new W212 E63S AMG. So I don't think that engine has ever breathed until it came into my possession. Car only has 57,000km on it currently, so I hope it all goes well. :P
