E55 vs. CLK 55
hi guys,
just read some interesting posts from the CLK55 group complaining about resale value. One guy had 2002 Cab that dealer was quoting $40k on trade-inand he was willing to part for $50to 52ish. Either price, that's a pretty lousy drop from the original $87k in less than 2 yrs.
So here's my question, all things being equal, I'm curious to this group's opinion of the two cars if similar price, ie. If 2001 CLK55 vs. 2001 E55 both around $45k. Thx.

IMO the resale on both of them is dismal because 1) the economy has been poor the past 3 years, and 2) (more importantly) both the CLK and E were recently completely updated.
Relatively, the new E55 has had a greater negative impact on the old W210 E55's because the new E55 got such a huge upgarde in power. The new CLK55 got next to nothing for a power upgrade. As such, I think the new CLK55 is overpriced.
From 2001-2003 the CLK had the 2nd highest value retention in the auto industry according to one leasing source I have followed.
That's changing now.
