Hey Guys, I want to install electronic cutouts in my E55. I have Kleemann headers and a Kleeman catless downpipe. The rest of the exhaust system is stock. I haven't decided yet whether I want the cutouts before or after the resonators & looking for recommendations on this. I do want the sound to come from the rear of the car though.
These are the exact QTP Cutouts that I plan to buy:
With this kit, I think install should be fairly simple. Cut the pipe right before the mufflers, weld-on the stainless steel y-pipe/ cutout, bolt on the electric cutouts, wire it up & mount switch. Am I missing anything? How many hours of labor should this be at the shop?

You will need an adapter to allow rotating the cutout, otherwise they will hang low and scrap on stuff.
A wireless switch will remove the need of running a wire and installing a switch.
he said no y-pipe is necessary with this kit, the shop welds it directly to the side of the exhaust pipe. it saves a few inches and i guess its not as noticeable under the car.
now that you mention the wireless remote, i was thinking about going this route simply to save labor hours running the wires for the switch and also having to drill a hole somewhere.
looks like i actually save money on hardware, labor, get a cleaner finish (w/ wireless setup), and don't have to worry about scraping.

So it looks like the end of the oval pipes have to be cut to mate up with the round exhaust pipes, and the same area of the exhaust needs to have hole cut open? That seems like more work than slapping in a Y-pipe. It would give you better clearance though.
A y-pipe might be a little louder, but any kind of open exhaust is going to be loud no matter what.
Not on E55 but I got these when they first came out. Stuff kept coming loose. I'd suggest you put some good thread locker or what I did was to dab some superglue on the bolt heads to hold it all tight. Design may have gotten better just saying what happened to me.

Yea, I'll have the shop use red thread locker when installing them on.
I plan on having the shop take care of welding on the cutouts and then I will run the wiring. I'm get the wireless kit so it should be much simpler. I plan to just go to the battery in the trunk. I'm installing the cutouts right before the mufflers.
Does anyone know of any easy way to run the wires into the trunk? Any factory drain holes in that area?
Also, any suggestions for a good way to secure the wireless module? I want everything installed as secure as possible so I don't have to worry about things coming loose later.
How did this turn out for you? did you end up going with the oval kit or the ypipe? Am pretty the ypipe mounting it in a higher spot on the exhaust shouldn't have to worry about scraping or such I'm thinking about doing this as well lmk how it turned out for you thanks

I ended up ordering the low profile oval cutouts. I wanted to make sure there was clearance room to avoid scraping but also wanted to avoid the cutouts being overly noticeable from the back. I also ordered the wireless remote kit for an easier, faster, cleaner and cheaper install. The parts just came in the mail today so hopefully I can get them put in tomorrow. I will try to get some before/after videos to post here. Right now I have Kleeman headers and no primary cats. I still have resonators, secondary cats and stock muffler. I plan to install the cutouts right before the mufflers.

Im going to do this on my car soon. im putting them right after the cats, i want it to sound stock when it closed and as loud as possible when open... i would like the sound to come out of the rear as well but i might have to sacrifice that. i had these QTPs on my e39. This time im going with the wireless kit. trust me... when one of my wires melted it was hell and took a day to figure out the problem. im not dealing with that again.

These are bad ***...I had a 3" QTP cutout on the downpipe on my 750 HP GMC Syclone and it sounded nasty and the power increase was noticeable with the cutout open. Post some vids when you get it done.
Got them installed yesterday. Welding them on took less than an hour, wiring it up took me 2 minutes. Wireless setup is definitely the way to go.
Very happy with them. The difference is night and day. Combined with Kleemann headers & primary cat-delete, the sound is awesome. Very loud but still tolerable. No drone in cabin on the freeway & sound is faint while cruising until you start to open it up. WOT is pure goodness.
Oh and did I mention they're pretty damn fun? Had a Camaro & mustang try to play last night. It was cute. Kept the cutout closed and toyed with the camaro for about 5 minutes of only half-throttle pulls. Eventually let him pull on me, opened up the cutout, passed him WOT and that was end of that
Definitely a worthwhile mod. Took some videos but they suck, Didn't really capture the sound too well. obviously its much better in person. you can download each file for a little better quality over streaming through dropbox. anyway for now until a nice day with the DSLR:
