Looking at E55's around 2006-07. What do I need to know before buying? Any foresight into what will be most likely to go wrong? Please post your experience, for I am 24 and have never owned a car worth more than $5000. Thanks

First of all e55 range from 2003-2006.Second of all, if you're 24 and never had a car worth more than $5k. This car might not be for you, not sure how deep your pockets are, but you'll definitely want deep pockets.

Ok, thanks for that... anything useful that I might need to know besides your opinion of my age and financial status?

Here is what he is trying to tell you, anything can go wrong with these cars at anytime and they are expensive to fix if you can't do it yourself. Most of these cars come up for sale because previous owner had repairs and they don't want to hassle with them. So as with any car it's hit or miss but make sure you get it looked over. Common things are motor mounts, intercooler pump dead, leaking gas tank/fuel under rear seat....just do a search on the forum and you'll find the common things.

This place is a joke.
Do you have $3000 lying around to replace the leaking fuel tank and senders?

Not cheap to keep on the road.

So like these guys are saying, unless your good with a wrench or have deep enough pockets in order to handle those Holy F**K why me! moments...you may be in for a very costly experience.

But like you were not yet aware that the w211 stopped in 2006...try to enjoy the long road on the internet highway in front of you. Google is your friend.

AM.

dang, what happened here!? I see a dead body and a oddly shaped face ^ lol.

OP welcome: Short story, the E55 is a BEAST!! Buy for for 15k..and have 6k saved on the side.
Make sure to get a compression test performed before you buy at the dealer. Good luck bro!

Wow, there are sure some vicious people here! This was the same"welcome" I got when I first got my car and posted with questions. If you don't wantto answer, DON'T REPLY!!! KISS! KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!

The E55 is a GREAT car but it does cost some money to fix if something goesbad. Definitely, get the lowest mileage one you can find. Get extended warranty. If you can't, make sure you have about $5k in savings.

Good luck!

Yeah I apologize. Thanks for the helpful replies. Im gonna go look at one on Tues. The guy is letting me drop a deposit and bring it back to my MB mechanic 150 miles away.

I found a ton of useful stuff on here in the last few days but I would much appreciate more experience and foresight.

Really? Offended by that? You should be more offended by the way "we" treated a new member of this forum.

GOOD NEWS, I found some cars within your price range, style and comparable performance (with light mods), super reliable too, anything goes wrong, you can go to Autozone, advance auto.... hell even WAL-MART for parts:

As much as im joking these cars really are way more reliable then the Benz and easy to work on and parts are real cheap......so really its a no brainer

I am just parting ways with a 2007 volvo s80 v8 awd that had 180,000 miles on it. Long story short is that I got into an accident with it. Bought it with 50k miles - this car was so dam hard to work on.... omg... looking at the 04 e55 amg (it has 61k), I enjoy this car so much better!!! It seems easier and more friendly to work on.
