Unhappy Need help-valve jobs-Bay area

Hi all,

My passenger side valve is making knocking/rocking noise when first start engine then quiets down after 30s or so after idle. After that if I rev, I still be able hear it but not as loud as when first start. I think my valves are bad

Car is 80k mile and just happened 2 days ago.

So how much is the valve job in average?

Can we do only 1 side?

Anyone have a good reference or connection to whom/shop that can do this for reasonable cost?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds more like a lifter issue. Call around to some reputable Benz shops and you may be able to get a few quotes.

for the last year i have been using Mercedes Connexion in Campbell - Al is the owner and stand up guy - former tech who knows both old and new - great resource and won't do the work unless needed.

Thank you all!

I do think and hope it's only the lifters. Anyone knows if it's possible to DIY?

Thanks!

Its not too bad a job. Be sure to replace all the bolts that retain the rocker shafts to the head. They're a TTY one time use bolt.

I've got a guy up here in Sacramento who's a factory trained dealer tech that does side work fairly inexpensively.

A bunch of local guys use him, and he's pretty good. PM me, and I'll give you his number.

Update:

Thank you all! I am lucky. It turned out just a loosing down pipe nut.

The fun was I spent $75 (1hr labor) to a shop, "I am auto", in oakland ( referenced by a friend) for them to tell me s$$$. Guy could not figure it out and wanted to charge me addition 2 more hrs to drop the exhaust to isolate. Mine down pipe was designed with a claim that I could drop it in 10 minutes. I don't understand why they even call themselves a tech he even broke my exhaust hing.

I then went back to my exhaust shop and spent $10 to tighten the bolt and to weld the broken part. Yes, it was $10. I owed the tech a lot more than that. I should have come to my muffler shop from beginning. At the end, I am still lucky though!
