Desperately in need of advice on an AMG trade!
No disrespect above, but don't say what you don't mean. People use the word Love and Hate way too much and it's sad that people have to curse or exaggerate to get their meaning across. While it's unfair of me to hold you to my possibly unreasonable lofty standards, I think a jury would agree with me that you're not desperate.
While it may or may not be true. You have to assume (based on high school economics) that your colleague is thinking from a selfish perspective for the trade. Now, it's your turn to be selfish. From your selfish perspective, do you want the trade? Is it the best economic decision for you?
Your concerns are legitimate, if the car is at the 4th owner, the telephone game has gone too long from the 2nd owner's accident.
Presuming you're an intelligent successful individual, the answer based from the information you've given us seems obvious. Keep your car, and if you really can't stand the pot holes, you probably should've have put big HRE wheels on the car. According to what you've communicated (and there may be other things that would sway the decision that you haven't communicated) the answer is just painfully obvious that you should not conduct the trade.
I drive around occasional pot holes as well, and when I hit them I too have that worrying feeling if I damaged the rim, tire, and/or suspension. San Francisco has roads with pot holes more often than roads that are smooth. It's a way of life. Get a new set of 18 inch wheels and stress less. That may be the best solution.

....or maybe you just enjoy being condescending?
I can see that swap if one is concerned about road condition, so far so good.
Your concern is a glaring red flag to me. I am no longer considering this a fair trade or any trade at all.
1. He would not know. He is regurgitating the story he was told and chose to believe. It will be handed down from owner to owner, changing each time as stories do.
2. Yes that blemish or any blemish on the title will decrease the value of the vehicle.
I would not get into any guessing game or justification on why this car has a blemish on the title. Your car does not. Your colleague is stuck with this thing until he can convince someone to buy the story.
Don't waste your time trying to get more info.
You should and given my late stage of answering, already have distanced yourself from this very bad deal.
A colleague of mine has a 07 ML63 that he is willing to straight up trade for my CLS. This would be an even swap, my 06 with 58K miles, flawless and tastefully modded for his 07 ML63 with 65K miles.
My only concern is that the ML shows "Damage reported after an accident or other incident" on the carfax. The owner insists that it was not an accident.
1. The reported damage happened 4 years ago with 2nd owner, current owner has been in possession about two months. How would he know (being the fourth owner) that it was not a legit accident?
2. Is this something that would decrease value of the vehicle, having this blemish on title?
I would imagine that one would not report to insurance any damage that cost their deductible +- a couple grand. In other words, why would you report to your insurance a scratch on your bumper, or even a paint correction fender bender? Maybe not at fault accident?
Does anyone know how to get further information on the damage that occurred several years ago?
What the hell should I do???
