Thanks, Im surprised this thing has not sold yet, I have a bunch of guys asking questions but no solid "I WANT IT" yet. I know its an older car and that market is not great for these type of cars, but I'm not sure why someone would want to spend around 20K on a beat up newer car vs this thing. I will keep it if I don't get the money Im looking to get. I have nothing to loose at this point.

Not to mention the immense import TAXES and also the fact that you have to own it for a year before you can bring it. What a stupid, extortionist, manipulative system. When they announced that Holden and Ford are gonna close, I evil smirked , I was thinking "even your stupid taxes can't save the local car industry because it's that sh*t". Why the f*ck should we pay more for euro cars? Useless ****ing animals.

Yeah I wasnt gonna get into all that so figured "excessive fees" would sufficiently encompass all taxes and costs. And because the Government's set up such a difficult expensive system the manufacturers are cashing in on this and selling their cars for vastly inflated prices. It's a myth that the LCT (luxury car tax) is to blame as this combined with all other taxes, freight and logistics and other related importing costs including the value of the dollar only accounts for about half of the extra margins compared to U.S. prices. For instance a $100,000 car in the U.S. should be $165,000 here accounting for ALL extra costs but instead sells for about $250,000.

Sorry for the ,

OK, so why do they make it so difficult to import a car. Why do you have to own it for a year? I know why, so you are forced to pay the extra to those companies. I'd be happy to buy a brand new car from the UK and ship it here and pay the extra taxes......but no, they won't let you and even if they did there's stupid BS like quarantine fees and "australian design standard" requirements. Let's face it, it's daylight highway robbery and people are suckers. If people took a stand and stopped buying these cars unless the prices are put down then why would a company lower them on their own? They want to make money after all. The companies themselves use BS excuses like "it costs more to ship to Australia", NOT $100,000 per car!!!

The people wont take a stand and that's the problem. It's a supply and demand thing, for example if the manufacturer has decided they need to sell a certain number of cars in this location to make it viable to continue operations in this market then they will sell them for the highest margin possible whilst still maintaining sales. Companies like Porsche dont even make excuses simply stating that if they believe their car to be 10% better than a competitors then that is where they set their pricing in that region.

So essentially we pay inflated prices here because we are prepared to...

That's true and fair enough BUT, the government is also complicit in this because if I wanted to say import a car from the UK, not needing to convert to RHD, I'd have to own it for a year and the taxes are still too much. Why don't they let me import a damn car without having owned it for a year..?!! They can suck sh*t though because I've nearly sold my E55 and I got a cheap E500 for $11k. Selling the engine, gearbox, diff, brakes, Airmatic, wheels, bodykit, headlights/taillights, exhaust, steering wheel, cluster, side mirrors off it and dropping in an E55 motor and gearbox and E63 facelift (full facelift), 19 inch wheels, coilovers, e55 brakes, Quaife LSD, clk63 black series steering wheel and E63 cluster as well as other stuff. My target is to complete the build having spent less than $27k and I have all the parts just about. The engine in question has done 63,000 kms and has been rebuilt with new gaskets and all the little stuff. So much for sh*tty taxes. The car is gonna have so many brand new parts that it's gonna be way superior to the high KM E55s selling for more than $42,000 still. I've test drove some of the cheaper ones, they're falling apart. I'm gonna have a car with new bushings, mounts, diff, suspension etc for half the price

I agree 100% and have thought the same things. The only thing is it wont be an AMG and that is worth something regardless but if you can get over that one little hiccup then enjoy your less expensive, better value and more reliable ride.

Actually it will be because I even bought a steering rack from a burnt out E63 from a wrecker. With the Quaife and the coilovers it will be superior to "AMG". These cars were not like the M cars or the RS cars. I've seen the chassis components, they are closer that you think. Take the Z06 Corvette, the engine cradle was different and made from magnesium. Take the Audi RS models, they were widebodies and had different tracks/axles/suspension setups. The AMGs were really lazy right until the C63 which is when they started to give them different components and body parts. The W211 E55 and especially the E63 are WAY overpriced here. I'm glad I'm getting rid of mine ASAP because it will just depreciate and depreciate and while I love the car, they're a little dated and not worth the 45k+ they're going for when you consider in the US they're in the late 10s. Usually it's unfeasible to engine swap and do a project like this though. The E55/E500 are an exception because they share so much. I wish I could put an M156 to be honest, I found one for a KILLER price but the electronics and modules just won't allow it. Such a shame because I love the M156 alot more than the M113. So much sharper and more character. The M113k is an easy swap though so it's a unique opportunity. Plus I don't really like any other car I can afford. The maximum I can afford is $60-70k for a car right now and that gets me nothing. If I could I would love a W212 E63 but they're over $120k still. That car kills the E55 in everything, throw a Kleemann blower, keep the stock headers and put a louder exhaust and that thing will sound MEAN!!!

Beautiful car, well built and I am assuming very well sorted.
GLWS!

This car may be the poster child for everyone who believes modding a car adds money to it. Although I gues if it was an un-modded, 12 year old, 12 cylinder Mercedes it wouldn't fetch much more the 13-15K?

I think you are correct. I believe a far market value for a car with miles and no warranty should be somewhere around 15k-16k howver a car like that which you don't know how much money you will need for repairs. With a car like this Im guessing it should bring around $17,000 - $18,000 in stock condition with nothing being wrong with it at all plus another $3,000 to $4,000 for the amount of work it has done. It is a AMG Package car Air Seats, with brand new ignition Coils and ABS serviced. Plus you have OEM AMG Brakes form the CL55 AMG, wheels, painted piano black interior, exterior extras, and most of all full package from SPEEDRIVEN other than Bigger Turbos. This car is currently the second fastest 600 on Dragtimes and it already has gone 125MPH in the 1/4 with a 1.73 60Ft. The record car has gone 123 with a 1.58 60. I think this car can be at the top of the list but I can't put it there due to the weather at this point. It's a lot of car for $22,000. Anyone can just slap on parts on a car, but this car has been tweaked to as close to 100% as it can.
