Your comparing a Chrysler to a Mercedes. Thats not apples to apples. Just like comparing a Cadillac to a Mercedes is not either. The w211 Mercs are some of the most beautiful sedans in the world and still are even though the new body style is out. Heck most people still think the w211's are better looking. Its just my opinion but a 300 is a thug's car. Pimping is what I think. Looks best with a set of 22's on it rather than a respectable Executive Saloon that can not only go to the most elegant of events but blow the doors off most everything else. A AMG Merc is a high performance package and comes with high performance maintenance, however they are pretty reliable and rather inexpensive to operate. American cars just do not compete in any category. Again my opinion.

It's only incomparable if you care about the image. If you're shopping for performance, like I did when I bought mine, you don't really care if the car has a star on the hood.

I was considering a 300 SRT8, but the E55 is just too nice and such a beautiful machine, not to mention faster.
The gen 2 CTS-V definitely is holding it's value.

How much time have you spent in an E55?
I have had mine five years, sat in numerous cars of crying brands in that time.
The E55 is one beautiful ride. I'm
IMHO the only thing that touches it currently are the new s class. Audi has been doing a good job lately.
Can't imagine trading into a last gen 300 from the E.
Now a new hellcat Charger...hmmmm.

I don't doubt that it's all-around superior to a 300 SRT, and I don't mind the thought of the more manageable repairs (like a SC bearing or CP sensor), but a disabling & expensive repair like an Airmatic failure would be a little disheartening. My worst fear is that I encounter them all rapidly. Wife would not be happy with my "new" car.

What about a E63? Yes has most of the same issues only not the supercharger ones. Unless that is of course you want to mod the car. You can pick up 07's for mid 20's with 50-60k miles.
