Question Got the call today - Dealer just got an E55 in

What to do ???

It's Silver (my first choice). I know, but it's my first Benz. It's missing some of the options I would have liked (mainly comfort seats) and it has a few things that I could have done without (Keyless Go, Tire Pressure Monitor). I'm not sure if its been built with the new clear coat technology, which would be preferable. The dealer is trying to find out for me.

Should I take my chances place an order and hope for a car in April after the winter is over or should I count my blessings and run to the dealer tomorrow???

Thx

P.S. Does anyone know if the rear window roller blinds can be dealer installed?? If so, are they the same as the factory blinds?

P.P.S. The car has 100 miles on it which the dealer tells me is normal for an AMG car. Sounds a little far fetched to me, but what is everyone elses experience?

Well about the miles, I heard thats normal because afterwards amg does some testing on the car or something. Not really sure, but I am sure that somebody will post on it soon.

it depends on how strongly you feel about ordering a car with your own specs...but if its your color, thats a definate plus--(plus keyless go is an option you probably would have regretted NOT ordering ) anyway, my take is, if its got nav, and its an 04 go ahead and take it man --regardleess its an e55

I personally think having the TPM is great, but I just don't see the value of KG personally.

My car came with 11 miles. Someone was having a little fun with your car to be. IMO the ONLY mandatory option is HID lights. If it doesn't have them, pass.

not too sure about the miles but the rest of the members here seem to think its BS so id go with them. However, if the car is the color you want and you have no other car to drive until april then i say go for it. and enjoy. Otherwise spec it out to your needs and you will get what you ask for. IE comfort seats, nano paint technology adn whatever else you want. You can even get a little upclose and personal and take european delivery. Its a very nice trip, my dad did it for his 5 series and i heard the MB one is very good. Im sure gonna do it for my C32/c55 come january whichever it shall be.

if it's not the exact car you want, why settle for a close second? if you don't buy the car you want [and can afford], you'll always have that little voice in the back of your head reminding you that it's not quite what you really wanted...

order the one you want, and tell them if it's got more than 20 miles on it when you pick it up, you'll expect a rebate!

good luck.

** I will disagree with most and say wait several weeks if you must. I think the new paint technology will be a big plus and it's not supposed to be available until this year (the car in question was built in 2003).

** For the $85K price you'll pay, you should have EXACTLY what you want. This is a truly great car. Don't cut corners at the last minute and then second guess yourself the whole time you own it wondering if the missing options were worth it or not. After your purchase a few weeks will seem like nothing.

** My E55 had 15 miles at delivery. I'm doubting the 100 mile testing story. Typical dealer BS. It's an unclaimed car, why wouldn't they allow a few drives?

** You'll never get a rebate/discount from them for the mileage. If you don't take the car at MSRP there's someone who will.

** I think the keyless go is an interesting option. Sure it's unnecessary. But that's what people said about power windows, power brakes and cell phones when they first appeared. Then you realize how convenient they are.

** You'll love the E55. If it's your first AMG car, make it worth the wait and get it perfectly spec'd to your design.

I tend to agree with AMG55, but it's your choice. Just give it some intense thought. I had a C32. Great car, but not much in the way of frills. Options DO make a difference. We'll be taking long trips. The Nav will be great. Those with the panarama roof love it. Those who discount Keyless Go haven't tried it. Those of us who have it love it. Bringing the beast to life that way is a teensy little thrill every single time, not to mention the convience. As to the 100 miles, I suspect a few people test drove it, despite his saying it just came in. I seriously doubt it was abused. Either way you're buying a great car. Keep us posted. Oh, and don't apologize for silver. It's a great color. People here have other colors that look fantastic, but it's what you like and you almost can't go wrong color wise.

Mine had 34 miles, but I test drove it before delivery.

A friend and I both bought 03 Cobra's, his was tested from the factory and had about 75 miles on it, but it also came with a nice certificate that stated it was a random test car.

Good Luck,
ROB

amg55 you are absolutely right...after you get it a few weeks (even months) will feel like nothing, but before you get it --thats when time seems to pass slowly...
anyway, that is good advice--after reading all that, i would wait, but then again what is a 100 miles and a couple of options---(although you never know how it was driven for those 100 miles)
tough choice for sure. good luck

Thx guys, lots of good advice.

I really didn't give you the full details, the car has quite a few nice options: Panorama, Comand, 6 disk CD, harmon kardon, Parktronic, drive dynamic seats, rear sunshade, keyless go and tire pressure monitor, bi-xenon active light system.

I'd be giving up climate comfort seats (which I would have wanted) and gaining keyless go and TPM (which I realizing may be cool).

I've read on a number of threads where some of you waited 6 months or more after ordering your car. That's the dilema for me, do I take the almost perfect car in the dead of winter or place an order and hope for an April delivery.

I'm going to take all of your thoughts into consideration and think about it over the weekend.

Looking forward to joining the E55 ranks!!

i'd take the car, you can make do without those seats.. i'd much rather have the options you listed then the climate controlled seats.

I just wouldn't like to be lied to....ask the dealer point blank....did this car go on a few "fun runs"? My CLK55 came with 14 miles on it. And thats because the gas station is about 5 to 6 miles away from the dealership! My car had to be flat bedded from New Jersery to Connecticut because the dealership here didn't have the car I wanted. Don't let your dealer-customer relationship start with a lie!

Ironically my dealer did have a black CLK55 on the lot......didn't have bi-xenons...but it had navigation and keyless go. It was a tester for sure. I drove it twice!! And let me tell you...I drove her hard! It easily had over 100 miles on it. The dealer was practically begging me to take the car. He went so far as to say he would "give me the keyless go for free". How many other people drove that car hard?

But I really wanted the Bi-xenons so I said order me the car I want. After all was said and done..I am very happy with waiting for the car I wanted...not the car the dealer wanted me to have!!
Good things (Like AMG cars) are worth the wait!

Holy crap. That car has some great options. I'd have to really want those seats to pass on it.

If it's just the seats - I've got great news for you - the Drive Dynamics HAVE ventilation. The ventilated seats are a lesser seat.

If that's what's holding you back go for it. The miles thing is BS - mine had 11 on it.

Thanx. Drive dynamic seats don't have the air function (at least in Canada). I'm in the Toronto area. Do they is US spec'd cars. I'm amazed at the subtle difference between Canadian and US cars.

Yes, I was referring to US cars. Boy that's a strange difference. In all honesty, given your location I don't think it should be a deal breaker, but again I've not used the car in the summer. Does the car have the solar panels with the roof ?

No solar panels. I'm guessing that a panorama equipped car will have a warmer interior in the hot months and that's why I was looking for the fans in the seats.

Does anyone out there have any view on how much hotter a panaroma roof equipped car is over a "regular" moon roof???
