Just for grins and giggles, I checked the number of actuations on my SBC. With 87,000 miles on the car the current count is 216,732 total actuations. That got me to thinking that I looked at "total" actuations which implies the counter increments anytime the system activates for stability control. I'll take another look at the other two files and see what the counts are in them...being able to see the number is a boon as it allows one to plan in advance for the cost and time required for replacement of the system.

BOSCH EXCHANGE electrohydraulic braking
Bosch now offers exchange EHB units. I think about $500-$600 with discount.

sbc reset or repair in los angeles
I have a 2005 E500, am located in los angeles, ca area & have the same SBC end of life problem. My car was 2 months past 10 years & MBZ would not replace the unit under the warranty. Have you found any independent mechanic in the los angeles area who is willing to reset or replace the SBC unit? Have you looked into the Bosch exchange program, how it works, & where to order it from? I have not driven my car since the message appear & am awaiting an affordable solution. Letting the dealer replace it is not an economic solution given the resale value of the car.

Find someone with the diagnosis system and have them decrement your SBC count by 10,000 or so. That should give you time to locate and purchase a replacement. Engineers always build in a safety factor so if the bean counters picked 300K as the cutoff point the engineers possibly figured the MTBF is actually 400K to 450K.
I am not an expert on this so take my advice at your own risk.

Yes, that is what the dealer said I needed. They won't replace the whole thing. I know the part number for the E55 accumulator is A0004301394 but will the one I posted work also? In the description it says that it works on the 2003-2006 E55 but I wanted to know if anyone has tried it with success

So wait until I'm home and have access to EPC and I'll see what I can tell you about this particular part.

The Bosch part number cross-references to A000430 26 94 rather than A000430 13 94. However, for your car and my car if you go to Autohauz, etc., they're gonna sell you the 2694. The 1394 may be an older part number. So, in short, that's a part that the distributors say will fit your car.

I am always iffy about buying this stuff on Ebay. Okay, that's out of the way.

after you get returned the core charge, the entire unit is only $750 from huskerparts.com. If your accumulator is bad, your SBC unit can't be too far from going as well. A new SBC unit comes with a new accumulator too.

I still have just under a year of warranty on the SBC itself. Hope if it goes bad that it happens within that time

most of the time they don't go 'bad.' what happens is they count the number or times the brakes have been used and once it reaches around 300,000, then it pops up a warning saying the entire unit needs replaced. With a STAR tool you can see what number is currently on there.

And I can reset it to any number you want incl. 0! Send me a PM if interested. All done with Star Diagnosis.

So, I have a tale of woe.
Having participated in these threads and having made a plan for the inevitable, and having almost 120K on the car, I was curious how many more activations I had left. So I hooked up a trusty XENTRY and went for the DJ_GetBRLive, which on my unit is "DJ_GetBRLiveTime". The number came back over 600,000, which seemed odd. So I went down to DJ_CalcLiveTime and looked at it; when I realized it was a command, I F1'd out of there. I also had a look at the non-developer-mode place you should be able to get the number, which nobody ever talks about; it's in the service section. I ran that and got an error saying that the unit needed to be programmed and that it couldn't be programmed because of a hot wire. (?) F1'd out of there. Did some other stuff, properly-closed XENTRY, everything was buttoned up fine.
And when I started the car and hour later, I got the dreaded white BRAKE, Service Brake Service Required" message.
So now here's my dilemma. Obviously, I can reprogram the numbers, but I don't really want to, because at some point this thing is going to need to be replaced, and if that 600,000+ number is accurate, then maybe it IS going to need to be replaced soon. And if I take it to the dealer, I don't want to have screwed with it. and I'm hoping that it just might need to be flashed. I would feel stupid replacing it if not necessary. OTOH, I can save a lot of money by buying the unit at Husker and just having an Indy replace it.
So...what to do now? Back the numbers off and just replace it down the road? Take it to the dealer and bite the bullet and be confident that my brakes will work?

The numbers are correct. I have over 200k miles on one of the cars and everything is still fine.
You could always get it reset and drive. It is a myth that one day you will be driving down the road without brake power. You will still have brakes that work (emer mode).
I wouldn't recommend driving with a reset SBC for the next 20 years but if you want to stretch it it's a way. Many have done it before and many will continue doing it.

If anything reset the number HIGHER so it has to be replaced under the 1 year warranty. I just ordered an SBC from husker last week and the price/part number that is online is an old one. I paid $750 plus I think $150 core charge and $11 shipping.

I went into star to check my counter. When I entered developer mode it was a bit scary when my cluster was blinking red/white, esp malfunction, and srs light all lit up. So now I'm sweating a bit haha. Go to check the counters and there's no numbers listed, just a blank space where I could enter a number. So I backed out and checked a few other German rubbish but didn't see the actuation number anywhere, all the while wondering if I got f'd like the other guy that checked on his counter. So I gave up backed out of the sbc window and my cluster went back to normal. Thank the Lord, I'll be able to sleep tonight. Have no desire to enter that mode again.
