Transmission is dead
200k on the tranny. My CL55 tranny lasted me much much more than my S55. E55 has the same tranny as well. Not any 722.643 transmission available locally here. However, a free S500 tranny is on hand.... Anyway, question is that I have been told you can use a 2003 S500 transmission but swap out the valve body from S55 tranny and it will work. I don't believe it and I think it will cause incorrect gear ratio problems. Am I right?

Off the top of my head I think that one clutch pack has 1 more clutch in it in the e55 trans vs the 500 trans and that is negligible. The ratios are the same on all v8 and up transmissions. Just the 4 and 6 cyl cars have a different ratio spread. I would swap the valve body and give no further thought if the transmission is healthy for sure. I always take them apart and check them out and at the age these transmissions are getting to be the seals are getting brittle and need to be replaced.
