Removing E18 caliper bolt @#$%#$%^#

I am replacing rear rotors and pads. I've done the drivers side using a hydraulic bottle jack to apply torque to a breaker bar on the E18 bolts. Oh my gawd. The passenger side is different. I can't leverage off the floor, and can't apply enough torque by hand. I am trying to borrow an impact driver, but I'm not sure I can get one back there. What are other people using to get these bolts off?

Why can't you use the same method as you did on the other side?

Try going to the hardware store and have them cut you a 2-3 ft length of pipe for a cheater bar. Just make sure it is big enough to fit over tour current breaker bar.

Unless I'm missing something, I don't see how to get my breaker bar to extend across the back of the rotor. Drivers side, lifting forward of the wheel loosens. Passenger side, lifting forward of the wheel tightens. I need to lift aft of the wheel to loosen. I've got some messages out to a buddy who has some scrap metal. I'm thinking about a series of cheaters that will get me going, but no gaurantees that will work. I'm about to put some heat on it. Maybe that will work.

I also used a hydraulic jack to apply force on a ratchet to remove the passenger side bolts. You need a short wobble extension (available harbor freight) to allow angling of the ratchet back out toward outside of car behind rear wheel. Used ratchet because there's very little distance btw the ground and the skirt.

bolts

Working on my rear brakes i to used a bottle jack to remove the bolt. And for the other one that wants to be removed in the other direction .I looked for a brand new ring spanner ,thats a real good fit . I then used a large lump hammer to knock the spanner. It is a bit rough, i know, but it had to come off .Other tools just wont fit in to help. You should have soaked it, on and off, before you try and remove the bolts with diesel on the caliper bolts.

Thanks guys! What did it was calling in a buddy. The two of us on the end of the breaker bar did the trick. Now I'm off to the store to buy three ratchets to replace the ones broken yesterday.

Had good luck over the years with using all Craftsman Ratchets, when you are at Sears pick up a Johnson bar also.
Recently did the Right front wheel bearing on my sons 011 CTS, caliper bracket needed ratchet and 3 foot cheater, no problem.
Yes wheel bearing went south humming along at 82000Km, just out of warranty, GM states they have fixed the wheel bearing issue from earlier years, Yah Right!!

You might consider replacing the bolts with new high strength bolts as I did. I had a front caliper bolt snap while being tightened. It just seems as though these bolts could become fatigued with the amount of force required to remove them.

brakes

I know some just come out with no problem .Thats when they have been removed before. Dont know if you have noticed , but if you replace the bolts in the front caliper, as you should do after refitting the caliper .The bolts you have from Mercedes are now screws, ie threaded all the way. A modifacation so i was told.

Using your analogy you should replace all wheel studs when you take off your tires. Unbelievable!!

Anyone ever figure out why they are so damn tight in the first place? Seems ridiculous if you ask me.

It took me six hours to get the rear calipers off today. Seriously, **** whichever engineer decided on E-bolts.

another way is to set the breaker bar on the bolt and lower the car down with the jack. that will put about 4,000 lbs of pressure on it

I use a good fitting spanner or wrench on the bolt, i then i put a small bottle jack under the spanner, or the wrench , then i jack up the spanner .
