It isn't cheap to make a non-AMG wagon to look like one.

Why would you assume I was offending the E55. The E55 is a monster, that's a fact, not an opinion. It's a classic, timeless beast that is an icon of brute force and savagery. I was simply saying that it's not that expensive anymore that someone would be able to afford a normal E and not an E55. Maintenance isn't even much more if at all. It's an amazing car and very reliable unless you have bad luck and get a bad apple.
That's exactly what I ment. Same goes with my family members. Most people out there don't really know what they're looking at and the people that do are gonna pick this guy out immediately, I wouldn't wanna be him when they do. I suspect he gets alot of smirks while he's driving from AMG fans. He probably thinks they're admiring his "AMG" but we all know what they're thinking
I used to call out posers but now I'm seeing so many AMG badges on non-AMGs FROM THE FACTORY I stopped caring.
PS: You guys should see this one guy who lives near me who built a fake Murcielago, and not a good one at that, and the guy thinks he's a billionaire. The guy is a snob and the Lambo is fake, I can't imagine how much of a douche he'd be if it was real. Now that's a poser. After you witness that, fake E55s are "meh, whatever". He put it for sale once for $75,000, it's built on an MR2 chassis
I called him and asked him if he was negotiable.......he said no
hahahaha
Although I do agree with HeissRod you make a valid argument. It's funny because I was having this exact same discussion while in the car with my wife the other day. I pointed out a non-AMG Mercedes-Benz wearing AMG badges while we were driving. Since she doesn't know/care about cars, she responded the exact same way. She said that she can't tell the difference between them and she really wouldn't even know what AMG really meant if it wasn't for me.

NO no.. the auction clearly states that under Trim description... it's an AMG. FIRST sentence states its an AMG Wagon as fact. "...Very rare."
Then he throws in a little actual truth behind that. That is intentionally misleading and needs to be removed.
I don't care if this ad was for a toaster. It's maliciously misleading with a price tag that needs it to be misleading.

If he's trying to push it as an AMG I stand corrected. That is NOT cool. He should say "AMG styling" but to say that it's an E55 is insane. Again though, no AMG fan can be fooled. Has he done a motor swap there would still remain details. Mercedes themselves have been selling posers right out of the factory though. I was at the Mercedes dealership 2 months ago and I saw a few brand new ML350s and CLS350s with AMG badges on the back.

Anyone remember back when you had to check the numbers when buying a used Camaro or Chevelle? Every other SS was really a base model with badges and maybe a couple of the parts bolted on.
Same ish, different decade.
He can do what he wants to the car he drives. Although he's clowning himself... it really doesn't bother me. Tells me he's an insecure little guy trying to puff himself up. No different than any other riced out POS.
But when he goes to SELL the car, he better be damn forthcoming, otherwise it's FRAUD. The way the ad is written, it's misleading enough to be a felony. If he sells it to an out of state buyer, that's a FEDERAL FELONY.
The ad needs to come down, and if it ever gets relisted, it needs to be accurate. AMG should not appear anywhere in the make and model of the car, and anywhere else in the description only AFTER the words "upgraded with..."

For the 30k price I have seen on the few for sale I can see a few conversions being made. For all the scammers there is 10k profit if they buy a totaled e55. The vin is the only way to find out. On even that can be taken and forged from a salvaged car

Let's bump a 3 year old thread rather than 10 months....It's back! Same picture of car is in a current Craigslist ad (New York state). https://newyork.craigslist.org/wch/c...713139074.html

1999 C43 AMG, 2005 E55 Wagon
I'd buy that for 4500, no problem. If the airmatic is at least decent. And then pull all those badges. Haven't people figured out the 'top swap' thing where you can put the blower and heads from a 55 onto a 500?
Wagon rear bumpers are, for good reason, extraordinarily hard to come by. If anyone wants the 'last' untouched OEM w211 E55 wagon bumper, it's in an open box at MB Nashville with a mangled corner from shipping damage. Otherwise you're buying this fake wagon, scavenging it for parts, then selling it again.

If your trying to pass off a non-AMG car as the real thing, at least make it look authentic. Slapping a AMG badge on your car, doesn't make it so.
But a see several fakes AMG cars, every so often here in Northern Virginia.
