what part of Houston are you in ?

It is a relatively simple job. just cut and put 2 x 3" pipes in its place any competent muffler shop can do it for about 50 to 100

I'm in the Midtown area, I would prefer to use a shop others have trusted their cars to.

I have used Ripley's at 1960 and kuykendale for welding my headers on, resonator delete, and my cutouts. They have done solid work every time for me.

Did you guys notice any change in performance? Torque loss at partial throttle at all? Any gains? I'm still on the fence...

Do what I did. Keep your resonator but get long tubes and a tune. I did notice a change in performance.

On my 2010 E63, I tried:

1. resonator delete with just straight pipes (no H or X pipe)
2. x-pipe
3. h-pipe

#1 was the loudest, but wasn't as smooth a sound
#2 was too high-pitched, although very smooth sounding, almost too smooth
#3 was my favorite. Nice deep sound in low RPMs, amazing sound at full throttle.

I did everything at Mayco Extreme at 2521 North Main Street, Houston, TX 77009. They have done exhaust work my previous cars as well. They made me a custom H pipe. Close to you in midtown as well.

No torque loss at all

It will give you a very slightly more aggressive exhaust note but no performance really. It's more of a make extra noise mod not go fast haha.

Awesome, that's what I needed to hear. I like the idea of the H-pipe.

Thanks for the input, guys.. I went for the resonator delete with 3" pipe and an H pipe, Here is a quick clip. Sorry for the poor cell phone audio quality. Absolutelu no drone and has a mellow tone at idle and at cruise.

I ended up going to Mayco Extreme for the work. Cost was $275.00 for the 3" stainless pipe and the custom H pipe fabrication. I would recommend them to anybody looking to replicate my results. A bit more pricy from what I have heard but they worked with me to fab the exact part I wanted for the exact sound I was looking for.

Oh, and the Lightning is fairly basic in terms of mods. Puts down 417 rwhp and 515 rwtq on my most mild, all weather tune. A couple more degrees of timing will kick it up to 425 and 535 give or take. Without the drag radials it is, well, entertaining to say the least.

That is an awesome mod list and great looking truck! I bought a brand new Sonic Blue back in '04. Most reliable vehicles I've owned.

Despite what you hear, it's amazing what you can get out of the stock long block if you're smart. If I can find the time I'd like to start tuning like you're doing.

I've always loved these trucks. This is my second one. As for the stock block, it's all in the tune. It seems as many of the tuners, although knowledgeable in making power, neglect to remember the platform they are tuning. With a supercharger upgrade, I can run another 50 - 75 more hp before I would get nervous. That stated, I really like the way it runs now. As it stands, I'll keep it the way it is and see of I can keep tires on it. The tuning can be a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it, it is like learning a new language. Just make sure to have a wideband and plenty of gas money. You know how much these things like to drink!

Well said brother. I like your mod path and I think it's ideal. I guess this is your thread so we can talk Lightnings all we want haha. I'm also a repeat offender. Here's my old Sonic Blue with a KB 2.3:

Ahh HELL YEAH!! Very nice! I've been offered several times to sell mine, I just can't bring myself to do it. Too many fun memories. I think I would miss it too much. I need to drive it more. It usually just sits in the garage on the charger. It gets out about once a month. Hmmm, I need to take it out soon.
