e55 or e63?
hello, can i get opinion on the e63 2007, runs fine but interested in there is anything to look out for, any issues with engine/transmission? its 80000 miles so i would think if there were any engine issues it would have shown by now. I also heard brakes are expensive but are there other options to get it cheaper? and how often to replace the brakes?
Let me know what you guys think
Overall, when taken care of how many miles can a E63 2007 last???
Also can i get your opinions on the headbolt issue for the E63s? I see very few people with E63s speak about a headbolt issue but it is quite common with the C63? Is this something that can be fixed with the warning signs before it results in a whole new engine needed?

There are multiple threads covering every question you just asked. Do a search first, read up and then start asking questions. Also realize that the nature and manner in which you've asked your questions concerning the earlier trashed E55 and now an E63 means your finances are not ready for this kind of car.

I've had my E63 '08 now for a year and a half. Other than normal services and tires I've never had an issue. I looked at the C63 as well and am glad I got the E. I have it serviced at a local specialist who did a check with the dealer on the head bolts and confirmed to me they were changed earlier in her life. I spend probably around $500 a year in maintenance. I haven't had to have the brakes done yet but have been told it will be $1200 ish when I do. I bought mine on 48k miles and she is now on 60k miles. She is my DD mostly for running me to the airport where she sits for 3-4 days and then runs me home again. I have been the proud owner of 8 different model 911's and as much as I loved them all, from my first 3.0 911SC with its giant rubber whale tail through to the last 996 Turbo, this AMG is the one car I love to get in and drive, love to show people and certainly the car most people ask about. You can drive all day here in the Bay Area and see Porsches, Teslas, Lambos, but I very very rarely see another E63. And as much as I like the new shape, I still think the W211 is beautiful to look at. I can't imagine ever letting her go. Oh and the wife loves driving her too !!
I doubt you will see E63's on here with very high mileage as they really aren't that old yet. There are lots of E55's on here that people take really good care of that do have some higher miles.
I love mine, I hope you do too. Good luck.

head bolt issues that you should look for.. coolant gets into the motor.
more c complaints because more c were purchased... not many people have money in 08...everyone was kinda poor around that time..

hey dch coolant into motor so something will light up on the dash to notify me of this correct?
and you truly think its just a numbers game in terms of why i see so many more complaints on the c63? it seems like a 90%/10% split in terms of c owners/e owners stating they had this issue....the vehicle im thinking of getting already has 80000 miles so could it still happen?

I went with the E63. I love it. With the Pedal Box and the H pipe it is a blast to drive. I wouldn't loose any sleep over the head bolt issue. Try one on and see what you think.

I'm up in the east bay, Walnut Creek area and have used since the day I bought mine a company called European Werkstatt. The guys there are great, very reasonable on costs and even more important than that, when I get an issue of any kind they have every time offered to take a look and almost every time fixed something and never charged me for it. Example a couple of weeks ago the CHeck Engine Light came on and my outside temperature display went haywire, saying it was 100 outside when it was 50 something. I called them thinking the temperature gauge that pokes through the front bumper had failed, they asked if I was close by, which in this case I was, so said drop by and they would take a look. They popped the computer in and confirmed the gauge was reading a problem and said to bring it back the following day. I dropped it off at 9am got a call at midday telling me it was all done. I went to get her and they told me the gauge had just come out of it's holding place in the bumper , they had put it back and reset the CEL and I was good to go. I asked how much it was and was told not to worry it only took them 30 mins or so. This kind of customer service is just awesome. Probably too far for you from the South Bay.
Most people tell me these cars are bullit proof if maintained well and played with too much. And as I said I've never had a problem other than a new battery a month or so back. But the one that needed replacing was the original so I think it was probably due.
I love this piece of engineering , it never stops me from smiling when I get in her.. And you can't always say that , even about the wife !! sorry !! Couldn't resist...
Good luck.

that is amazing customer service and good to know there are still at least few honest upstanding people like that, those are the types of people i have no problem taking my vehicle to with any issues knowing that they will treat me fair.

OP - Any car you buy there are worries that you won't be able to tell till you have it for a bit. E55 and 63 are the same. It is good you are asking questions but most if not all subjects you are asking about have been beat to death here on this forum. There are many threads covering Brakes, Head Bolts, Suspension issues for both models. There are threads that cover suggestied upgrades to eliminate those issues, make the factory parts work better and make life simpler.
E63 Brakes (Front Only) Rotors are approximately $1250 a piece and pads are $350 or so from MB. You can source factory rotors online at places for about $8-900 a piece and pads for $350. So a front brake job for a E63 by MB is around 3K. That is why a member said you might not be ready for a car like this financially by the manner of your questions.
Forum Sponsor Racing Brake provides alternatives to this by offering upgraded rotors (2-piece also) that are something like 8 lbs lighter each for $1400 per pair. They also offer rear ones to match if you prefer. This offers options to reduce unslung weight. You can find their information in the many threads they respond too.
Suspension issues - Airbags and motors on the E63 suspension and also the E55 go bad. One corner of the car takes a dump and its likely to cost you $800 or so plus alignement etc... It has been mentioned to replace all 4 with coil - overs to eliminate this and I think, don't quote me, but prices are like $1400 for 4 so no more worries again. They will go bad at some point. Arnott make a replacement shock also that you can use for slightly cheaper I think.
I have had 2 E63's. Both have been perfect for over 20k miles ea, and both had over 60k miles on them when I got it. My current has 83k miles and its perfect. I have no worries. If something breaks I will fix it myself or worse case MB or Indy. If you are really worried then get a aftermarket warranty that covers such items you are concerned about. Probably 4-5k for that but will cover a 80k mile car for 3 yrs and 40k more or so. Some member have used theirs to the tune of 20k, most have not, and some have never used theirs.
Do your searches on this forum and you will find all your looking for. Search
1. E63 Rotors (replacement, cost, DIY etc....)
2. E63 722.9 Transmission ( issues, conductor plate, DIY, fluid etc....)
3. E63 Head Bolt (issues, replacement, cost, warranty, etc...)
4. E63 maintenance costs
5. E63 best tires (you need to look into tire cost also, not cheap most get less than 12 miles out of the rear, so at least one rear set per year if not two)
Hope this helps you out

These are really fun cars. I wouldn't lose sleep over the head bolts. My engine ticks once in a blue when its cold, and my transmission kicks when cold. Once it warms up everything is butter. I always keep an eye on the oil levels, and always warm up the engine before going past 3k revs. Brakes were the most expensive job I did, but the most annoying jobs for me, are the small suspension related components. Not to mention the damn panoramic sunroof that clicks and creeks.
But to answer your question, if you are going to be stock get an e63, if you want to mod your car, get an e55.

there is a plate you can make to put on the back of the pano motor which will prevent it breaking forever. Takes about 3 hours of your time to do. Just a bad design on the motor.

Get your pano rails cleaned then greased and that will lessen the stress on it. Also there are posts to fix that issue, yours is likely on its way out, that is unless you are talking about the flexing the whole panel does from time to time.

When mine is cold and I approach a stop, it lurches. It goes away when warm. Is that what you experience as well?

OP, when I bought my E63, I immediately brought it into the dealer to have the updated head bolts, valve buckets, and cams installed. Total bill for parts and labor was just north of $4000; however, that price includes discounted parts pricing. If you do buy an E63, I would make sure your finances are in order to absorb this cost at some point during ownership.
Do you have a link to info about this plate? I've searched this forum to no avail.

It seems to fluctuate depending how much gas I am giving at the given point.
As for your lurching issue, I also have that. When I am in sport mode (1st gear starts) and I am slowing down to stop abruptly the shift from 2 to 1st sometimes also lurches a bit. From the little research I did, there supposedly is a transmission software update for this issue. Someone might correct me if I'm wrong.

I get that as well, but only in sport. I'm pretty sure it's normal, it just feels like the transmission downshifting as it should. It's very minor IMO. I also have the most recent transmission software according to the dealer.
