newbie question,

I would appreciate some advice.
I'm thinking seriously of purchasing an E63 AMG wagon. What concerns me is that it isn't 4 matic. I live on the East coast with plenty of snow and hills.
I've been driving an Audi S4 which has quatro.

Obviously, as I'm writing in the Mercedes forum, you guys are fully committed to MB.

But I'm truly concerned with using the car as a daily driver. If I put snow tires on the car, will it handle driving thru 6 inches of snow, or do I need a second car for the winter?

With appreciation in advance

You could probably do it but not comfortably like in the Quattro. I'd plan to get another car with AWD/4wd for the serious snow if you plan to go with the 63 wagon. 500hp rwd doesn't mix very well with ice and snow...

Snow tires won't help much with RWD?

Well, I was afraid that was going to be the answer. The car isn't stable on ice and snow even with snow shoes.

I drive my E55 in the snow with no issues. But would never day to day drive it during our east coast winters. I lease a FWD car for peace of mind and daily use.

I live in Greater Boston, and drive an E63 on rear snow tires. Honestly, its one of the best winter cars I've had. On summer tires it sucked, but with snows on the back and a couple bags of sand in the truck its not bad at all. I still recommend a 4x4 beater, but this gets me through just fine. After all, its still a heavy long rear wheel drive car, so its pretty easy to control and gets through the snow fine.

You can get through fine using it as a daily driver- however snow tires are a must.
