need definitive answers on 82mm TB upgrade on 03 E55
I have a local guy that is giving me a great buy on an 82mm throttle body.
P/N: A2731410325
After researching Ad nauseam on this forum researching this mod, I have found so much misinformation/conflicting information from an 80mm throttle body is actually 78mm and a 82mm TB is really 80mm; intake pipe for a 82mm throttle body is actually 80mm, etc.
I just wanted to get this ironed out before I purchase all the parts and move forward with this mod.
1. I am reading that the 82mm throttle body is the only MB throttle body upgrade which don't require any rewiring. I have read that the 80mm TBs open in a reverse way that requires rewiring. Not really interested in that aspect of an install, so I would like to avoid that. A reflash is one thing, but rewiring is not something I want to do.
2. What parts do I need to actually replace? Intake "y" pipe, throttle body, 82mm TB gasket, and 82mm blower inlet section? Again, not interested in hacking up mine and welding in an adapter plate. I would rather just buy a bolt-on part.
so far I have found these P/N:
1. 82mm bolt on tb: A2731410325 - should be 100% PnP with exception of retune
2. 82mm or 80mm "y" pipe: ???????
3. 82mm TB gasket: ???????
4. 82mm supercharger inlet section: ?????
any other parts that I am totally forgetting? Looking to do this mod this week.
thank you.

you can do a 80mm tb with an unmodified sc inlet from a late year SL (those came from the factory with an 80mm tb), but for an 82mm you have to have a modified sc inlet no matter what.

my friend definitely has the 82mm TB, so what exactly do I have to do to sc inlet to make it fit? Do I need to start with the 80mm inlet part, or just use the stock e55 74mm s/c inlet?

I think Berti made some plates for the 82. Look him up but not sure he has more laying around but might can still get one made for you

the plate would have to be welded to the stock plenum and obviously bored to the 82mm, I would assume. I was reading that the addition of the plate really pushes the TB back and causes some issues with the mounting of the y-pipe. I will contact him. Thanks.

It will certainly push it back some. I had a stock plenum bored out and drilled so I could keep my carbon Renntech box.

is it any more or less work to start out with a 74 vs an 80? is the tb mounting bolt placement an issue with either one?

does the supercharger have to come off to swap the plenum?

Good info, Since the SL55 with same m113k motor already has 80mm throttle body stock. Wouldn't a 90mm be a better upgrade? Skipping the 80 and 82mm entirely..
But, you would definitely need long tube headers to increase exhaust flow to accommodate to that large of volume of air entering the motor. Without choking and raising IAT's…. But, given that. I think 90mm would be the way. Anyone have thoughts on this?
As reference the supercharged cobras pickup a ton of power by going 90 even 100mm on throttle bodies.

90 is a different ball game. You need someone to really work on the plenum and then work on the intake. Also want to point out the 90mm are somewhat problematic, go on the dodge forums and many have issues at one time or another and have to exchange them.

I guess you're referring to the BBK 90mm throttle body?

Denroll is still on a 90 isn't he?
