Drove an 06 S65 and yes it was fast but thats about it. Its huge, starting to show it age real bad especially the interior and overall just a very big car with a lot of power. No real feel for anything. It is pretty comfortable I must say. E55/E63 IMO is a perfect all-around car with the right size, not too big to feel lost in it and not too small like a C55/C63. Anyone else have the same experience? I almost feel like that car is pointless actually, why do you need a huge car with that much power? Its kind of a like an M5 being the perfect all-around car with just the right size. Don't get me wrong, a regular S500/S550 is perfectly fine, big, comfortable, reliable (for the most part), fairly good price, not slow by any means... etc, but why would someone spend double/triple for essentially the same car with a lot more power? IMO, its a pretty stupid car.

You think your ancient 12 year old E55 isn't showing it's age? especially on BOTH interior & exterior Hmm a pointless car w/too much power Are you going to sit there & pretend your e55k w/basically stage 2-3 hp/tq improvements is in ANY way a necessity? You sound like a ridiculous hypocrite that's just trying to make yourself feel better about owning a 3 years older (you test drove an '06 S65) More HP modified E55.
The S65 WHEN STOCK should be in your nicely modded E55's rear view mirrors, even though the 65 still has more TQ, the weight advantage in your much lighter E55 will negate this.. What your feeling in driving the S65 is the immense torque, but the hefty curb weight that come w/it removes it in real world perf (until you modify the S65 w/ ECU/TCU tune then the enormous hp/tq will easily overcome that weight deficit vs your nicely modified E55k)

Like a bone stock airmatic suspension setup in the E55 is good for anything but the straights? Actually I bet the S65 paired w/its ABC hydraulic suspension (progammed to vastly reduce body roll) has LESS body roll than the E55... Though both are basically pigs in stock form (suspension) Both are BEST in the straights..

Wow.... I'm so glad we ALL don't think like you, what a sad world that would be. Ever try thinking outside of your exact preferences, wants & needs in making such conclusions as to a vehicles overall value/purpose? Maybe, just maybe, the majority of others who actually keep buying 1 of MB's most successful flagship luxury 4 door high powered sedans actually needs all that room & enjoys all that hp/tq? Appears you like extra unneeded hp/tq too, as long as it's on your fanboi e55

This place is a joke.
The S65 is an awesome highway car. A little big for the city (unless you are driving slow) The 220 is showing it's age, looks a bit dated, while the 211 blends in with newer cars. Looks newer than the boxy/camry 212 for sure. The E55 is an awesome city car (and decent on the highway) An S65 needs miles of open road with no speed limits to be of reasonable use....my opinion.

I drove a e55's S55's and an S65 when I was looking to buy. I did like the E class better. The S55 in the curves impressed me. I didn't hit any turns in the S65 but It was fast. I loved the ABC in the curves. It's atleast double the cost to maintenance an S series. The S65 is loaded with options. Reclining ac and heated rear seats etc. it's a true luxury auto.

Looks wise? The E55 is hands down better looking inmop vs the w220, but go to the w221 vs 03-07 E55 I'd give nod to S65..

Actually the seat coolers work better in the S.. I remember a huge thread here comparing ALL different models & E class owners cited their E's cooled seats being worthless etc.. All MB's are better/worse here & there it's your choice to find the model best suited to your overall wants/needs..
IE the main point I've been trying to express here is counter to the OP's thoughts & feelings, he would have you believe the S65 is a pointless vehicle, w/too much hp/tq??? How this even possible?? Majority of every thread on this entire Forum is about increasing hp/tq & lowering 1/4 ET's

I love the W221. It's the pinnacle of luxury. The new W222 isn't an improvement and it's not inferior to vastly more expensive cars like the Mulsanne. The interior is PERFECT in design and ergonomics. The exterior is simply gorgeous, a timeless classic. The W221 is in a different league to the W211. The W211 is amazing but the S class is the flagship. Is it a boat? OF COURSE!! How can it not be? It weighs 2.25 tons. The thing is 1000 lbs heavier than a base E55 which is already a boat anchor. If anything the W221 S65 is impressive in how it manages all that mass and still makes it controllable and fairly nimble. If you think just how much more in involved in making a car that big go fast, turn and brake you'll be gobsmacked.
By the way what's with people calling the W212 a Camry. Are you delusional?!! The W212 E63 looks WAY newer than the W211, inside and out. The car in person is a BEAST!! Muscles coming out of every angle. It looks like it's on steroids. Especially the pre facelift with that extremely aggressive front design. It's simply SEX!!! I love the W211, I adore it but the W212 IS the successor and is a much better looking car. I get that the new model is always brought down by loyalists to the previous generation but be realistic, it's better in every conceivable way, and that's no easy task considering how amazing and incredible the W211 is. The W211 set the bar very high, nearly unreachable, with it's cult status but the W212 did it and is better. It's not like the difference between a W210 and a W211 though, that was a REVOLUTION, the W211 simply BLEW THE W210 AWAY!! The W212s success is less but still, it's the better car.

65 Chevelle Wagon w/ C5 frame, 08 ML63, 04 S600, 04 E55,(sold) 00 ML55,(sold) 98 C43-55K Swap
I've owned both. Well, a tuned s600. Close enough. My E55 had a pulley, tune HE, pump and hre's. My S600 with a box tune, HE, pump, muffler delete and wheels obviously. I loved my E but that being said, I sold the E and still have the S600.
The S600 on just a tune will pull away from the pulley'd E55

Because it's about status. The higher the class, the bigger the number, the cooler the car. Most people don't give a **** about how it compares to other cars or on a drag strip or track. They want what's considered the "best", not necessarily best for the track or most practical. Nobody neeeeds any of this, it's just fun. Personally, I think a car like that is impressive just by the badges. Like I said, it's a status symbol. Like a breitling Vs a bulova perfectionist. Yes they both tell time accurately and both are nice, but whats more a "wow factor" brand?
