How to remove gearbox from engine?

How do you separate the engine from the gearbox (E55 engine/gearbox)?

They're out of the car and on the floor. What now?

Remove torque converter to flywheel bolts. Look under where bellhousing meets engine, there is a hole. Then just remove the bolts going through bellhousing to block

its pretty easy, you have to turn the crank bolt (Possibly a 27mm bolt) until the torque converter bolt lines up in the hole where you have access to take it off (Possibly a 16mm bolt) and once you take the TQ bolt off, you turn the crank again until you see the other TQ bolt through the bottom hole. There should be 4 bolts holding the TQ.

Fixed it! Then remove the bell housing bolts(E14).

6 bolts, three pairs. Elhonaz is correct, they're 13mm and the exterior bellhousing fasteners are E14 as stated by 211.070

This is roughly the same method to disconnect any engine from any automatic transmission... I'm a little worried that you've been able to dig this deep into the car and you don't know how to separate these items. If you intend on putting things back together, I strongly suggest getting someone more knowledgeable to help you.

That's not meant to be insulting.

No offense taken. I am not putting it back to together anyway. I just want to separate the gearbox.

The crank doesn't turn, it's seized. Does this need to happen to get the gearbox off? I have already taken around 9 inverted torx bolts off but there are 2 near the bottom that are hard to reach. Gonna have to lift it.

Will taking off these 2 separate the gearbox and engine and how will they separate, will the gearbox just fall off or do I need to slide it back out. I'm post a picture asap.

Then you cant get to the Flexplate(flywheel) bolts... the torque converter connects to the gearbox in a way that you cant just remove the bellhousing bolts and remove thr tranny. tq needs to come off with the tranny. Or if someone else knows more they'll probably give their 2 cents

In this case with the engine being seized you will not be able to remove the torque converter to flywheel bolts. You will need to remove all the e14 torx bolts from the bellhousing and then pull/slide the transmission out/off of the engine. The torque converter will stay attached to the flywheel/engine. Then hopefully you will have enough clearance to get all the bolts out. DO NOT PUT IT BACK TOGETHER THIS WAY.

So if I remove all the E14 TORX bolts it will just slide out freely with no issue and won't damage anything?
