E63 MBH Tube Pictures

Got them, but now I'm deciding if I'm going to go through with the install. I got 200 cell Vibrant cats to use and was going to use 3" straight 304 stainless to the rear section. The quality is great.

So nice!!!

If you have the time and a couple friends do the install your self. Save some cash.

Took me about 6 hours on jack stands and that's with us BS'ing around. Overall its easy just time consuming taking the nuts off the old headers and putting them back on the new headers.

You can get most of the top row of nuts from the top of the motor, but then comes the sliding around on your back under the car fun, I'm a bulky gym rat guy so it wasn't to fun for me, my lean body friends had no trouble though.

Good luck!!

I'm a MB tech for a living so I'm not too worried about the install. Its the extra cost of the fab time I'll have to pay my friend and my time doing the mock up, mig, then the final tig weld of the mid section with the new cats. It will be an all day project I'm sure. I keep listening to sound clips on youtube and it makes me want to do it more and more.

Did you run yours to the factory secondary cats?

Nope, Mine is:

Headers, Xpipe (V banded) then straight all the way back to stock mufflers.

Sounds perfect to me, regular cruise sounds like stock, press the gas and it gets heads turning, pops and crackles loud under deceleration. Video just dosent do it justice.

I have had the resonators deleted already. I don't understand how you guys can live catless. It smells so terrible. When I did it to my CL I felt like I was driving a 1973 Duster. It really takes away from the whole luxury car thing to me. The sound these cars make is pretty cool.

For whatever reason it's not so bad to me with the M156, all of my M cars were 20x worse smelling, the S65 engine in my E92 M3 was absolutely the worse, so bad I felt a film of exhaust on my body after driving the car.

Man.... I think your just getting used to it. I'm going to do the install on Monday with these 200 cell metal cats. Just had a 63 come in today with 90,000 miles that had a tapping noise. Cams and buckets need to be replaced. $6,000 in parts alone. Yikes.

LMAO Duster…. Totally right, removing all the cats takes too much away from luxury feel and the smell is horrible. I couldn't go one day driving some pos around town. You are not gaining much by removing 2 secondary cats down stream.

What do you mean? The restrictive factory secondaries will be gone, and some 200 cell metal race cats will be in their place. Killing the smell and hopefully not creating too much back pressure killing power.

I put them on today. How the C63 guys do these on jack stands and in four hours is beyond me. I'm a MB tech for a living and it took my Dad and I 6 hours to finish. Getting the factory manifolds off was a *****. All of the studs but two came out of the head. Each one was hard to turn until it was completely off.

I lifted the engine a little bit and had to take the steering linkage going to the rack off. On the passenger side of the car I found it next to impossible to get any kind of wrench or socket on one of the upper rear nuts. The pipe is too close to the flange, and the design of the head leaves you no room. I'm going to call MBH for suggestions Monday.

I fired it up open header and wow. Sounded like a touring car. I'll be towing it to my buddys shop to make the midsection. I'm selling the factory manifolds and midsection with cats if anyone is looking to return theirs to stock.

Yup. Hopefully my buddy will have the cats in and done Monday. I need Jerry to resend me my re-tune because I think I saved the wrong file to my desk top. It should be ready to roll after that. I wish I could just drive it to his shop, but I'm afraid the interior would rattle to pieces by the time I got there.

Any of you guys done a N20 kit on a 63 yet?

I drove mine for two days with open headers it rattles pretty bad. I'm deciding on what tuning company to go with at the moment.

I'm doing a 100-125 shot setup as well, the M156 can handle it, going to get a custom tune for that.

I took a video of the car pulling out and was about it load it on the trailer. I need to figure out how to send an email of that size and I will post it. So I was going on about how much the car would stink with no cats. Surprisingly the 156 is not too bad. Still more then I would want to smell, but nothing like my CL was. The E63 isn't one tenth as stinky as the CL55 was.

My Dad and I drove it around the block a couple times. Sounds just like an old school V8 with open headers. I got on it and it was just stupid loud. Felt slow too. I'll get some pictures tomorrow of the exhaust set I'm going to do. I hope it doesn't rattle anything loose that I will have to fix.

Told ya!! For whatever reason the M156 doesn't smell to bad, and once you get the rest of the exhaust on, it goes away more.

It's funny the looks on people's face when they see the car and hear the sound coming from it with open headers, their always confused haha.

It definitely feels slow and is cause we practically loose all our torque down low with open headers due to lack of back pressure.

I finished the install today. The passenger side header hits the body, and I still can not get the nut on one of the upper rear studs. I'm waiting on my retune file from Jerry. I'm dissappointed with how the car feels. Its real loud at wide open throttle, but feels real slow. Hopefully the re-tune will wake it back up. The cold start and revving it at idle sound super bad ***.

I'll have some pictures posted soon. My fab guy does great work. If any Seattle people have any interest in getting their stuff done feel free to contact me.

That first picture was a weld that I did where the cat meets the slip joint. My buddy's welds are much better. I was pretty happy with that one after not welding for a few years.

I can already see why your car is louder than mine, I have a AR xpipe where you have straight pipes, the x pipes changes the tone and balanced the chambers, potentially adding power as well. Looks like this then straight back to stock mufflers.
