Interesting point, Has your car gone quicker through the traps since your gear swap?

Also wondering,Do you get that late shift into 4th right before the 1/4? Or does that extra tire growth compensate and keep your screaming through the traps in 3rd?

Nope, we have the same NaG1 you guys do, but it does have different clutch packs. Don't forget, the LX platform the older srt8's are built on are Daimler products. There are a few parts interchanable between the srt8 and W211 E55.

I am fairly certain the trans in both uses the same ratios, so you'll keep the top of 3rd gear if you use 26"-28" radial with the 3.06.

And I see someone already took my advice on the WTB Lxforums post.

Interesting, I was thinking you had a newer SRT8, I thought they came with 7 speed like newer AMG. Good info thanks!

Wow, thats pretty good, You were running street tires or drag radials? No other changes to the car other then gear swap from stock to 3.06? Sorry for all the technical questions. Just want to be certain I am hearing you correctly.

drag radials 1.75 sixty foot spun bad. Now when I ran 11.48 before gears the car went 1.67 sixty foot spinning, but the car didn't cut out shifting. So I know the gears did something if I can run a worse sixty foot and the car cutting out loosing the 2mph in the 1/8th yet picking it up at the end the car liked the gears. now I just have to dead hook my shifts are good now or at least seem to be iI will run a nice time. 123 to 124 mph is what I figure I would trap now.

can you swap the ring and pinion in place or do you have to pull out the diff to do it ?

How much $$ are these gears? When I finally bite the bullet and get the Quaife, I might as well do the gears, too.

I think thats my plan as well Denroll. I'm thinking you could have the rear set up with new gears before the swap and just do it with the Quaife.

Do it Dennis. Had BIP do the gears on mine when adding the LSD.

While we are learning, here is a really neat old video showing how a differential works:

2007 E63 AMG
Lil' help? '07 E63 AMG here . . I put a post in the E63 area but not really getting anywhere, and I see you 55 guys already "been there & done that" so I thought I'd see if you might could point me in the right direction.

Stock ratio is 2.82 and I want to go to (just) 3.08 or thereabouts (3.06?). I see mention of the TCU needing retuning after a gear change . . so where is a good place to go to get that done?

And will the 3.06 gears you mentioned (SRT 8) fit in this '07 E63 AMG housing on the stock carrier?

Also thinking about a Wavetrac diff to get the most power to the ground on this rwd-only car . . It hooks up in ways even Quaife can't. Anyone have experience with this unit? : http://www.wavetrac.net/technical.htm

Note that this will be the 5th car I've put lower gears in, so I know what I want and what the effect will be. I just need help with obtaining parts, TCU tuning if needed, and possibly install . . and whether the same parts you used will fit this diff.

Anyone?

How difficult is the TCU modifications, or is this still a theoretical mod?
