stupid stereo...
dang stock stereo on my 05' E55 all of a sudden decided to quit working. I was driving and the only thing i could think of is I hit a huge bump and I was actually worried my shocks were gonna blow but instead the stereo took a crap. I get the mercedes benz logo and then it just seems to shut off or the screen is a goner...no sound, nothing!! I really don't want to dump a ton of cash into a stereo. I love the car and i just put a bunch of cash into maintenance stuff but not sure i can handle no stereo....sigh. Not sure what to do...get rid of it or replace the stereo.

I think when it goes, it's usually something else. Search some of the threads in the other forums. There's a MOST bypass loop that you can add to each device and when the system starts working again, then you've found your defective device in the chain. Or maybe a star diagnostic will tell you which device is bad. If it's just the cd player or the phone or some other device you don't use, you just leave the bypass loop connected and your radio should still work.

not as bad as you think...
the last post is exactly correct. you just have a malfunctioning component somewhere in the loop. when you hit that bad bump you could have easily disconnected something, either the nav unit or sirius or something else in the trunk. the nav unit is the easiest to get to and/or the sirius sat connections. get to the nav unit in the trunk and make sure the connections in the back is all there, take it out and put back in. check your sirius sat connections too while you are there. if those 2 component checks out, move onto the cd changer in the front there. you will have to remove your ashtray out of the way and make sure the connections are good in there too. due to the fact you hit a BAD bump and put a jolt thru the car, it makes me believe you may very well knock out a fiber optic connections somewhere???? you also have several fiber optic connectors in the trunk right behind the rear seat, lift the carpet and all out of the way to check all those connections too. start simple because from your description, its something simple that got disconnected. you will be amazed when its all back up and running again! good luck!

So, I was thinking about the wonderful saying on the forum when there are weird electronic issues going on, disconnect the battery..so apparently my radio was trying to turn on and completely killed the battery overnight. I hooked it up to jump it and low and behold the radio turns on just fine, It's working...damn cars!
