Mid Length vs LT headers

From what i've been reading it seems that LT headers have the biggest gains, but cost twice as much if you include install costs compared to mid lengths.
Decent Kleemans and EC mid lengths cost $750 approx + $600(Labor approx).

MBH would be $2400 + Labor (Depending on vendor)
EC LT are $1700

How much of HP and TQ would I be leaving on the table if I went the Mid Length route ? Would it be even worth trying to install Mid-lengths ?

Thoughts about X-pipe for power gains would be welcome.

As a general rule
Shorties=20
Mids. =30
Lontubes=40

Mids are the most popular because of price and they are easy to find. Most gain around 34 hp
MBH are the best top of the line and are worth a legit 40+ at the wheels. With mods even more
If you can afford them I would buy them.

Keemans are better than they were. The are good quality but not MBH quality

EC lontubes are still fairly new and I have not seen as much info. I would,guess the hp gains would,be in the middle of mids and MBH.

MBH are probably the best designed to utilize the large musclecar like displacement of the E55 with a positive displacement blower that makes the car act like its a 7.0 or even 8.0L engine.
Large diameter runners for decent midrange and excellent top end. Long runners all the low end you could possible have with excellent midrange.

I kave the kleemann but if I could do it again I would have gone MBH. Of course rubbing the ground is something that would bother the crap out of me...but Im sure as Denroll said, if it wont ruin it, I will be ok

I've been running MBH headers for nearly three years and don't have any issues with ground contact. Of course I am not dropped like a pair of panties on prom night.

I went with American Racing Headers. The quality is top notch and the power gain over stock was incredible. I picked up ~45WHP (can't remember TQ). I feel a little loss on the bottom end if I don't put my foot down all the way but mid range and top end is 100% different. The car feels like a NA car now, very revvy and likes to be be ran at high RPM's. I am on stock pullies and full cooling. The sound is intoxicating. I have no cats, 6.3L mufflers and long tubes. It sounds like a funny car!

The MBH unit tucks in underneath the car quite well. Similar to the OE setup. I will be tearing down the front suspension this weekend. I can take a few up close pics for you to give you a better idea of how the headers look once installed.

You can see pictures of the MBH headers in my thread here:

https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...-pics-etc.html

Notice that the collector is situated in the vertical, before going under the car, providing better ground clearance.

FWIW: It changed the sound of idle quite a bit. My car was silent pre-LT's even with the mufflers and X pipe. My ARH don't hang down at all and I have had no clearance issues with the steering shaft. I have my wheel all the way out and down inside. I am lowered 1.5" upfront as well, not that it makes a difference but it might. I've been asked if my car is a diesel in traffic before lol

I have the Eurocharged ones... Some things to note...

Get OEM gaskets and hardware

The test pipes they include need to be modified to fit correctly, or at least the ones they sent me needed to be modified

I agree, I've had my MBH headers for nearly 5yrs and no issues except they sound great. I MBH > stock secondary cats > stock resonator & modified stock mufflers

They told me the primary gaskets are oem, while the larger gasket between the test pipe is Chinese...

So, just based on design ARH should make the most peak power right? Being 4-1 vs 4-2-1 for MBH? Also being mandrel bent with much fewer welds should be an advantage.

Here you go. The entire system consists of the headers, mid-pipes, and an h-pipe.
