If you've never had anything with a GM LSX powertrain in it, you owe it to yourself as a gearhead to own one at least once. Tons of interchangeable, inexpensive and readily available parts to play with , ridiculously easy to work on, easy to tune, and vast resources of knowledge to tap make for a very fun all around experience.
Maybe pick up a completed swap car, they can be an absolute blast such as an LSX swapped 3series BMW, or an LSX FD RX7... A ride in one of those will make your pecker swell up. Check the classifieds of LS1tech.com for some interesting options.

Get an E39 and drop an LS motor in it, gut it and put an M5 bodykit on it and wheels, brakes, coilovers and what not. Just get the cheapest E39 for sale, sell it's running gear and what you don't need and build it from there. Although, maybe you don't wanna go through a build which will always taken longer than anticipated.

E55 AMG (SOLD), EvoSport CLK (SOLD), 2013 GsxR 750 (SOLD)
CTS-V... 2010 and up.
I'm a little biased only cause i also jumped on one right after i sold my W208. The only real obstacle was... the price.
Have that thing tuned in the LBC at D3 and you're good.
If you don't plan to lower it, clearance is perfect.
