Run in with an LS1

I wasnt planning on posting about it since I dont have pictures or anything but since Ive seen a couple of these threads in the past few days I'll join in the fun.

So this past Friday I was headed from where I live over to Tampa to a friends place to watch some football (The road to get there is a land bridge across Tampa bay thats about 6-7 miles across I believe).
Anywho, just as I'm getting off the mainland and onto the bridge I notice an older (late 90's early 2k ish) Camaro behind me taking off his T-Tops and I noticed he had some pretty fat rubber sicking out of each corner so I gassed it and made a little noise to see if he wanted to run.
Long story short we got next to each other at 60mph and went on his count to 3... I started pulling on him and we shut it down pretty quickly at about 100. At this point his nose was at my rear wheel. He pulled up next to me and yells that he wants to turn on the spray so I followed him to the next turn off. When we started talking he tells me its an LS1 with heads, cam, and headers/exh and a 150 shot (i have no details otherwise) and says "damn those blown AMG cars are fast". He turns the *** on the bottle and we pulled back out onto the road.
Again we roll from 60 on his 3 but this time he pulled hard away from me. By 110 his rear bumper was about 6ft in front of my front end and we had reached the end of the bridge...I didnt have any expectations going into it if I would win or lose but it was interesting getting to run the cars and seeing the huge difference in his car with a little n2o and overall it was a friendly encounter so thats always a plus.

And for clarification I have a fixed 77mm, a bosch010 pump and 2 auxiliary HE's inline with the factory HE in case you were wondering.

Sounds about right. Head/cam ls1 will run 12 and under. It's a great n/a motor. Plus the 99/2002 cars weigh 500-600lbs less than us. The new camaros weigh the same as us 4k+ most ls1 will take down the newer v8 cars also spray is super easy. Shoot it into the air box and the ecu does the mixture for u. It's as low risk nos car.

Wow, fun stuff… Ive never lost to any LS1. But, I got completely and I mean completely obliterated by a C6 Z06 from a 60-130mph pull. (not sure what he had done if at all) It was loud and it was fast. On the other hand I destroyed a different C6 Z06 from a dig, didn't look like he started to pull up to about a 100mph. In my rear view the entire time. Ran several LS2 LS3. I like Chevy guys, they are cool and always down to run.

When my fuse to my intercooler pump was blown (not sure why) I lost to a stock looking C7 stingray manual trans from a dig… (I heard he had some mods from a buddy of his, didn't say what) He got me by 2 full cars at the top end but, I felt my supercharger shut off due to crazy high IAT and I launched in sport mode and spun while he dead hooked and left me.

Having had an LS1 before and many friends with one, they are beasts with just a few mods especially because of their weight. I had a bone stock 1999 T/A and it went 12.98. My buddy had a stock internal, bolt on's only, converter, headers, etc (stock heads/cam/intake) and he took some weight out (3300 with him in it) and it went 11.5's on tires. He ended up doing heads/cam/intake and went 10.5's.

Owned several LSx cars. Hottest was a bored/stroked LS1 with a Procharger. Broke 700whp in my C5.

Hard to get traction. Miss that car. Closest I've owned is my SL65

Yep. My converter only car ran 12.9's all day any day. They are dipping into the 3k range and I'm looking. You can run 12's with 290 rwhp. My son has my old SS and ran 13.0 with a 2.0 60 on bald street tires. I still have headers and a cam in my attic for my next build.

I messed around with a GTO last week. We went from a 40 roll (our sweet spot). While I won, it was not the total blowout I was expecting. We thumbs upped each other and went our merry ways with him left thinking "How did that Mercedes get so fast?" and me thinking "How did he get so fast for such little money?"

The goat is an ls6. Same as the first few years of ctsv. Seems like a lot of the ls6 guys have a (Maggie) magnacharger. They must have ran a sale on them. I looked at 2 ctsv' both had one. Common dynos are 470ish.

First years were LS1. Later were LS6.

2004 E55/2011 CTS V coupe
Thought I was going to have my first run since I bought the car with a ls1 about a week ago, it was loud, street was clear, he didn't want to do anything..Then a couple days ago I was getting on the interstate with a newer 5.0, maybe a 13' or so, he kinda gets in it a little like he was ready, we both merge on and sure enough he didn't want to do anything..Seems like people are more hesitant to run me in the e55 then my cts-v
