Smile Considering Purchase E63 Wagon

I am considering the purchase of a 2007 E63 Wagon with approximately 90K miles. I have a 2000 E320 Wagon and it has been a great car.

When I was younger, I was always a Porsche guy, but with two 80 pound Boxers, I need a little more hauling space. So I am thinking that with an E63 Wagon, I can get Porsche performance in a sleeper wagon.

I want to upgrade my current ride to something newer, my 2000 E320 Wagon is getting tired and has some rust starting to pop out.

What can I expect in the 2007 W211 E63 Wagon from a maintenance standpoint?

What are the weaknesses in this car?

I have read about the fuel leak issue on this board, are there other major issues I should be aware of?

Is maintenance significantly more expensive Than say a E350 Wagon or a E500 Wagon? I currently spend probably $2-4K on annual maintenance, will an e63 break the bank?

I realize that an AMG E63 parts will be considerably more expensive, but what else should I consider before a purchase?

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.

Mark

This has been discussed multiple times on this board (and other sites), but the only core concern with the W211 E63 is the fact that early M156 engines (up to mid 2010 iirc) are susceptible to the head bolt issue. That said, I'm getting close to 90k miles now and I have no issues. Coolant leak, white smoke, ticking sound on idle are early indicators.

OEM front rotors replacement is approx $2k job, but there are good alternatives (girodisc).

Make sure you get VMI/documented maintenance history in order to reduce risk of after-purchase maintenance costs.

Weaknesses? Costs more to mod. To me, that's a good thing. =D

Be prepared to replace your rear tires more frequently...

+1 - agree - maintenance is nothing crazy - or maybe i have just had an AMG for too long - the growl and perma grin due to just how much fun a wagon is is the hardest adjustment -

im at 84K on my 08 and the car has been solid - just get a car that has been cared for and has a proper maintenance record and you will be fine -

Personally, I prefer the E55 -- just love that supercharger.

That said, I think any AMG has some cost, but I've never reached $4K per year in my E55 wagon and we've owned it since 2007. LOVE the car. We'll never sell it.
