285/35-18 on Stock wheels (Nitto DR)

I got the bug this week when I took my SL65 to the local 1/8 track. My problem is clearly traction. So, I thought I'd buy a set of Drag Radials.

I have a full set of spare E55 wheels, so I have been researching tires that would be close to the right size for both cars. I'll ask in the SL65 forum if the E55 wheels will fit on the SL65.

The closest size I have found are 285/35-15. If I am correct, stock tires on my wagon are 265/35-18.

So I am going up by 6/10ths of an inch in diameter and increasing width from 10.43 to 11.22.

Both feel OK (width might be too much).

Any ideas/suggestions?

By the way, they are a perfect fit for the SL65. Same width and an increase of only 2/10ths of an inch.

Mickey Thompson and Hoosier don't make a tire even close.

Of course, my biggest problem may be a need for another set of wheels. My wife wants to go too. I have to admit running against her would be interesting.

For the E stock wheels, then use the Mickey ET Street Radial 2 265/40/18. The 285 might be too big for stock rim.

Thanks!

That's a full inch larger in diameter. That's not an issue on rubbing or freaking out the computer?

Not sure they'll fit in the wheel well of the SL65.

Love the pic

I used them on my car (E55) with no issues, on SL not 100% though.
Thanks on the pic

SL65 wheels fit on E55 so it "should" work vice versa. Put them on with the car jacked up and spin the wheel. No contact, you're good.

If I were you I would stick with stock height tire. Adding inches to diameter will lengthen gearing on an already long gear ratios. I'm sure they work. But, not ideal.

I ran BFG G force drag radials I think they were like 275 or 285-35-18 I forget they only have one in that diameter and wheel size. I made sure to find the same height tire. They hook and rev out just like stock tires in the top end.

I heard good things about those Nittos also. I like the sleeper look. Stock wheels and sticky tires.

The wheels have a set of BFG drag radials on them now. They're 10 years old and haven't been used in 8, so I'm going to replace them. Unfortunately BFG got out of the business.

I do need to just try the wheel. 19 on 18 will always clear. 18 on 19 might not. The 65 has huge brakes.

I'll get there. Thanks for the advice.
