Old and new E55

I am just curious how many people have old AMG E and still planning to keep it for a longer time. What's the mileage?

As for new E55 owners, do you use the car as your primary daily car or just for weekend drive. Do you plan to keep it for a long time? or just trade it in when the new one comes out.

Thanks

It's my daily drive. Lately I've had a 98 ML 320, 2000 ML 320, '02 CLK 430 and the E - so we'll see. I think this one will last more than 2 years.

I use mine as a daily driver...biggest reason I bought it was the combination of sport, luxury and practicality.

Next generation won't be out for at least 5 more years.
Since I rarely keep cars more than 30 months I doubt I'll still be driving the same one by then.

Daily driver....This is no weekend warrioer mobile. That's what the 996 Turbo is for.

I got my E55 in 2001 and it currently has about 15K miles. I am planning to keep my W210 E55 for at least 6 years, the same for my wife's CLK55. Keep on switching cars every 2-3 years for me is not financially practical. Since the arrival of our first child our attention has been focus on the child. As of now we are maximizing the contribution of 529C college tuition plan, and when the second child comes next year more money to the 529C. I guess priority changes when having children.

Cool

Have a 2002 E55 and plan to keep it for at least 3 more years. It has 13000 miles on it and I will continue to upgrade it.

99 E55 with 35,000 miles. It's not very practical in the vineyard or at my house under construction so I drive the Denali every day. I'm not happy with the brake system and the prohibitivly small tire choices on the W211. Also waiting to see if the 7 speed, satelite radio, cornering xenons, nano paint and other promises ever make it to production. In the mean time, I'm spending some quality seat time with a Jag S Type R, M5, and a few other luxury performance cars.

I bought a 2004 in December. I love the car and it's a daily driver. I plan to keep it at least 3 years. Two other cars I think I'd like and could switch to down the road are the new SL600 and the 2001 911 Turbo.

E55 was my daily driver, had it for 6 months, put about 9k miles on it.Length of ownership and mileage is about average in my case.(and my wife is getting tired of it,She insists I keep the S for at least a year.)

I've had my trusty W210 for 2.5 years now, bought it new in the early fall of '01. It's been one of the best cars I've ever owned (which included 4 bimmers and 2 benzes), solid, extremely reliable, and a joy to drive. I intend to keep it for at least another 3 to 5 years.

Not sure what I'd replace it with. The new W211 is very nice, but it just doesn't call to me. Perhaps MB's styling has become a bit too derivitive for my current taste. New 5 series is ugly; RS6 is terrific but commands no respect from your average joe; S-class, 7 series, and A8 are just too big for my needs. So unless something comes along that REALLY grabs me, I'm pretty content with the good old E55.

It's great when you can really bond with a car and enjoy it a long time. I had a Mustang GT I put 200,000 on that my wife finally MADE me get rid of cause it was rusting out so badly. But the engine, drive train and shifter were as tight as the day I bought it. I can see that maybe happening with the E55 cause we both love it so much and there are nice upgrades that can be done to keep the excitement there.

Interesting...

Now, who has an old AMG E with around or more than 100,000 miles? Is the car still running well with no major problem?

old e55

I had a93 500 e with 110 k and sold it to a friend who now has 140 k on it with the same shocks and only a wiring harness and new transmission put in. He loves it, and can really not consider a new model yet.
I've got an 01 e55 and had to add bilsstein sport shocks and hr springs to make it feel like the old one.
The next one comes in june.

good question ****...

i have always wondered about the long term reliablility of the AMG engines. i asked this question a while back with not many responses. it seems very few AMG owners have 100k + on their cars. a couple of the C36/43 AMG owners have over a 100k and don't report any problems. so it seems that the AMG engines are just as reliable as the non-AMG engines.

One more question. What is the range of MPG do people get? Average or if you want to be specific like in City and in Highway.

19 MPG average?

How's the new E55 compare to the old one.

I do like 75% stop and go and 25% open road. I'm around 15.5-16 MPG already. Actually better mileage than with my C32. Amazing. In the summer when I get the Conti's on and start pounding it, that should drop a bit.

past 2000 miles I've done about 14.5 mpg at an avg of 21 mph... mostly stop/go driving in northern va. I expect this number will not get any better - I typically drive in 3rd or 4th given the conditions...

MikE55 - well said.

I've been in mine for only 8 months but don't see anything grabbing me either... the w211, although a REAL performer, is too soffft [exterior styling] for my taste... I like the Jag X-type R, but performance is wanting... the m5 or new 6 may be a contender, but until they arrive, I've not truly been tempted to stray!

Anyone see any chrome wheels out there that fit the E55? I'm into chrome. Must be a carry over from my Harley days. Had chrome AMG style wheels on my white C32 and they sure were sweet.

Wrong. Priority #1 is always CAR.

Maybe you need to juice it up a little bit to make it a little more aggressive.

Dr. Chill, your car is awesome. You and T-bone have done some great upgrades. Oh, for anyone with the burl walnut, check out the "new steering wheel upgrade" thread on the CL55 AMG section. I have to get this Renntech steering wheel.
