E550 vs AMG E55

E550 vs AMG E55
Been a Camaro guy for a long time, wanting something more elegant, comfortable that still has V8 and rear wheel drive (don't like FWD - no fun). Love the E55 but this will be a daily drive that I plan on driving for the foreseeable future. As the E55 is supercharged and geared more for performance would the E550 be the better option or is E55 robust enough to handle the daily grind for 250,000 miles or more?

Either model, if properly maintained, should be able to meet your needs as a daily driver car. I drive a E550 as a daily driver vehicle with no issues. Nice mix of luxury, practicality and performance.

Welcome to MBWorld. Have you driven both yet? Both are great vehicles, but you'll want to see if the E550 gives you enough of the power you're looking for. What year were you looking at?

I have been driving camaros for the past 30 years. This is the first time I have not owned one. I got an E55 because I wanted a better nice fast car. I have no regrets buying this car. If your looking for a car with insane thrust buy the E55. For me I needed speed.

My 55 is my daily driver. I love it and it's nice having a little extra *** on the road. It's pretty affordable to own if you have resources and can twist a wrench. The ultimate sleeper and welcome balance of luxury performance in my opinion. I plan on driving my truck come winter time though..

It's hard because the E550 has a great engine and with only a tune will be faster than an E55 BUT, it doesn't look like the E63 and without the E63 look, the W212 is just not nice. I say get the E550 and get an E63 bodykit but that will cost money and need labor and what not. It is a newer car though, the E55 is aging a bit now but it's just a BEAST!! To buy the E55 you have to be looking for one and want one, not choose between a few cars because the E55 is special and the people who buy it know it, want it, admire and respect it. It's not a car you just stumble across and decide to get.

Will wait another year or so and grab one for around $25k. Tune and DPs should be a 11.99 car in good weather. 4matic and decent fuel economy, its a no brainer!

In that case it's a no brainer for me at least, I've heard bad things about the NA 5.5. A dealer told me that the M113 is a solid motor and they rarely get ones with serious issues on the other hand the NA 5.5s are always in the shop for a variety of issues. So I think W211 vs W211 shouldn't even be a contest. The E55 is more reliable with more power.

2012 E550 still very expensive around $36K to $40K depend mileage and option. E55 is about half price of that with some change. Even next year, they will still in the low 30K... W212 depreciate less than W211 when the same age. I think it's all depend on budget.

WOAH!! That's ALOT more. For that you can get a W212 NA 6.3 E63 in the states right?
