Front tire on rear rim?

I'm carrying an extra front tire in my trunk as a spare. Does anyone know if this can be mounted successfully on the wider rear rim in an emergency?

I don't understand how an unmounted tire can serve any purpose in an emergency. If you have a spare front wheel, mount the front tire on it and it can be used on all four corners in a pinch. A rear wheel/tire can fit in front, but it may rub on a fender well when turning.

There aren't many shop out there equipped to mount 18in wheel/tire, and who will mount it when you have a flat at night? DR. Chill's suggestion makes more sense.

ajoe, suggest you get that extra rim and mount that tire.

For those carrying a spare mounted tire in the trunk. Will that fit in the tire well or do you just take up the trunk space with the spare. I thought I was getting away from this sort of thing after the C5 is sold, but guess not. Benz needs not immulate the created problems that the "general" was famous for.

Takes up half the trunk. This is why nothing fits.
