2007 E63, 2005 M3
Joined the club - new to me 2007 E63
First off, a big thanks to this forum which provided some key information when I went shopping for a W211 E63. Found a single owner, 2007 with 55K on it (everything except the Pano roof) . Clean PPI aside from a broken driver's side sun-visor and the cleanest CarFax I have ever seen, spot on maintenance and oil changes, no accidents, etc. This was enough for me to pull the trigger. Price was $25K.
With a 2nd child due in February I needed more room. The primary drive for the family is the wife's 2013 X3 which is great but I was driving an E46 M3 which would have made things pretty tight when my new son arrives. Love the M3 and somehow I was able to convince the wife that buying an E63 while keeping the M3 made sense. Still not sure how I pulled that off, but I'll take it.
The E63 and M3 are two different cars, the M3 is more of a driver's car, better road feel and engagement (6MT), but the E63 is spot on for me as a daily drive. Civil when need be, but a flat out beast when called upon. My "stable" now holds an E46 M3 and a W211 E63, I think that is a solid start .
Thanks to this forum and a friend who drives a W211 E55 I was aware of the fuel tank issue. The day after I purchased the E63 I was in the garage setting my audio presets, etc when I noticed the gas smell. Took it to the local MB dealership the next day and they conducted their investigation. A request for the extended warranty work was submitted to MB North America and approved. The parts showed up yesterday and I will be taking it in for a full fuel tank, etc replacement all covered by the extended warranty.
The only other issue with the E63 was the paint had been neglected. I detail on the side so there was no problem there. I spent a few days in the garage conducting a 4 stage polish, topped with Collinite 845 (Chicago winter coming). Below are a few before/after pix as well as a few post detail reflection shots us detailers love.

Basically the entire finish was coverd with scratches and swirl marks. Overall I am very happy with how it turned out.

Thanks for looking !

great looking 63 I need to get a detail done as well. I love black on cars but the high maintenance required to keep it looking awesome sucks haha

W211 E55 Wagon, E46 M3
I too have an E46 M3 6spd and it still amazes me how much faster my E55 is in a straight line even with all that extra weight. When it comes to cornering, road feel and driver engagement, M3 wins hands down. I think the two cars compliment each other quite well. Like you said they serve different purposes. I absolutely love taking the E55 with the kid and fam and then have the M3 for the track or some spirited drive at night.

Thanks everyone for the welcomes and compliments, great to be here.
I'll shoot some more specifics on the detail over in the "Detailing and Automotive Care" sub-forum as soon as I get the time to do a full write up.
Quick highlights for you:
Clay: SONUS SFX with ONR at clay lube dilution
Polish stages via Porter Cable 7424XP (5.5" and 3.5" Lake County CCS pads)
Stage 1: Meguiars M105 - via Orange Pad - for the areas that required heavy duty correction
Stage 2: Menzerna SIP P083 - via Orange Pad - for everything else
Stage 3: Menzerna Nano P106FA (now called "Super Finish") - via White Pad - for polishing clean up
Stage 4: Menzerna Micro Polish PO87MC - via Blue Pad - I've found this stage adds an extra level of finish to a full blown correction with minimal effort
Wax: Collinite 845 - most durable, great ease of use and longest lasting wax I have found. Ideal for an upcoming Midwest winter. In the spring/summer I use Menzerna Power Lock topped with Chemical Brother's Pete's 53 which offers a bit more pop at the sacrifice of durability.
Black 040 is a pain to maintain, no question about it .
We could talk about this for hours . You are spot on in your assessment, "the two cars compliment each other quite well" - agree 100%.
Cheers
